I didn't. My FIL bought a Ruger #1 in 45-70 and to be honest i just didn't't care for it. I can't exactly say what it was I did not like about the gun, it just didn't have the right feel for me. I have been keeping my eyes open for a reasonably priced 1885 high wall repro. I will stumble across one eventually.
I've taken several deer with a 45-70 Marlin lever action and all 1 shot kills. That rifle will be handed down to the boys.
Having done that I switched to a 460 S&W Mag in a TC Encore. The 45-70 was sighted 7" high at 100 yds and dead on at 200 yds.
The 460 S&W is sighted 3.25" high at 100 yds and dead on at 200 yds.
Both shooting the same Hornady plastic tip bullet. Increase velocity make a big difference.
My son has a Ruger bolt rifle in 458 Win Mag in my gun vault and next year I plan to load that rifle with the same Hornady bullet to increase velocity and to say I did it.
