Left work a little early bc I was worried about the basement. Went straight to Lowes to exchange the busted brand new sump pump. While I was there I ran into a buddy of mine that is a plumber. I asked him about the Utilitech 1/2 HP sump pump that I was buying. He said hell no, you don't want that. He suggested the Zoeller 1/2 HP pump. He told me where to buy it. About a 20 minute drive from Lowes. He called ahead and let them know I was coming and to give me his discount. So I drove all the way down there and picked it up. I got home and started setting things in motion to get it changed out. Thankfully all the rain yesterday did not affect my basement. The sump was full but didn't over flow. So I drained it, and let it sit for a while. While it was draining I took out the new pump, put on the male adapter for the PVC and got everything else ready. About an hour later I got to thinking about it and realized there was no float on the pump I just bought, even though the picture on the box showed one. I got a hold of my buddy and sent him some pictures. Well wouldn't you know it, they sold me the wrong damn pump. So I now have to go back to that store with the wrong pump and exchange it after work today. This shit is starting to piss me off.

Thanks Rick. I picked up the correct pump yesterday afternoon and went home to install. I disconnected the bottom portion of the piping from the check valve and wiggled it loose. Right as I did that I got a very cold shower of rain water all over me, my face, the floor, and the dryer. LOL My dumbass forgot to unplug the old one. I couldn't help but laugh at the comedy of errors that have ensued with this small project. Lesson learned. The instruction manual told me that I needed to drill a 3/16" hole level with the top of the pump to prevent air flow issues. Well when I filled the sump back up to test the pump, it sprayed water really bad from that hole, which I knew it would do. Unfortunately the hole I drilled was not angled downward quite enough and some of the water ended up splashing out onto the floor. Does anyone know if that holes is a necessity? Other than that, the problem has been solved. As for the hole, Ill either cover it with a lot of tape, or just replace the pipe and fitting. Thoughts?
