Well, here I go. Heading out to the back eight to kick my season off.

My dad saw plenty of deer this weekend, but nothing he wanted to kill. 68 years old and he still manages to climb up the tree. It kicks his ass more and more every year which is a drag, but that's life for you. I'm pretty damn fortunate to still be able to put him in the saddle.

Saw one little guy shortly after getting settled. Felt awesome to be out. Time to start grinding!

In that pic I'd say he was 16. Around 12 was the closest. It's the only stand back there, but is prob best in terms of year around cover. Not many shooting lanes, but 75% of the deer walk the same walk that deer did and never realize I'm there

Good stuff man! Good luck this season Gordo and enjoy the ride! When's your dad coming back?

Nothing is planned as of now. He's retired but is busy as shit helping my sis and her husband out with my nieces in NC. It's kickin him and my moms asses.

That being said........

I had a solid idea this weekend when he was here and we'll see if we can get him down here and make it happen.

Back in the day, we used to shoot a shit ton of black powder. My ole man was a crack shot with his Thompson Center. His goal way back was to harvest a deer with that thing. He was way into shooting that 'boom stick', but killing one with it never happened. We just didn't see deer back then like we do now let alone get them in range.

I'm hopeing to get him down here for gun week or muzzle loader. Might have to arrange it as a surprise type deal and take him captive after turkey day and drive him back from Asheville with me.

It would be the absolute TITS if it works out. I gotta make that happen. With my sis and her hubby's crazy schedule, I better call her now and put it in motion

Went out this morning. Other then a shit ton of Turks flying off the roost, it was quiet. Gotta TCB(take care of business) and get work done so I'm cleared to disappear for a bit starting Thursday and hit my honey holes. Still planning on being in the woods in easy access/close to home areas until then.

Much needed update:

It turns out, this bow hunting thing is good for the soul!

Been hunting fairly hard. Have had a great season in terms of sightings. Have seen everything I can ask for, but just haven't had the right one in range.

One property is producing sightings like I could only imagine. Then I get a flaim out my ass and hit different spots like my property and have uneventful hunts.

Tonight was the first night I got a bit discouraged. My land is only 8 acres, but I spend time back there. Frustrating not seeing does the limited time I spend out there. Oh well, that sounds pretty damn spoiled of me.

Ive been seeing deer at a huge rate at my favorite spot. The place usually doesn't catch fire in terms of mature bucks until the second half of November. The place is pretty damn magical all the way down to the folks who own it and really welcome me with open arms. That's always a good feeling.

I'm going to spend as much time as I can hunting that spot. It's just to the point to where I question myself: 'be in stand in under 20 minutes and gain an extra hour of hunting' or 'get my ass to that property even if it means only hunting an hour'.

I've really been spoiled this year. Great hunts. Shouldn't be frustrated at all, but it's the nature of the beast
