Just gotten to this threat and yes I use a summit and looks like the same. I have noticed the same thing. I now check to make sure the clip is correct. I do wish it was made stronger. I don't use mine as much. I have changed over to climbing sticks, hang-on, safety harness, and a life line. I only use my summit climber for a new spot. If good, I will put up a hang-on. So much easier and safer climbing steps, plus being tied to the tree at all times.

I have a summit Viper, it has little tabs that slide side ways to put cables in and close them once you get the cable in. Why change a design that doesn't have this problem..
I still have my TSS plywood platform climber from the 80's hanging in the garage lol... I bet they still work as advertised.... Boy have they come a long way lol
