Still have to get my hand way to close to cut the loop. I would still choke him out with a catch pole before I put my hand down there.Catch pole would of solved that issue, Joe.

I don't disagree with you. I prefer that method depending on the owners. If I know they will be nothing but problems for trying to reach a peaceful resolution sometimes it's better if you don't involve them. You are talking about different scenarios where shooting a dog may be justified. I'm talking about a dog coming into your property and chasing wild animals. I'm pretty sure if it's a continuous problem law enforcement can be called and the owner issued a fine.
Had a problem 2 yr's ago,2 dogs running the crap out of deer everytime we were hunting also had pictures of the dogs on trail cams almost daily.
Drove around the block and saw the dogs at their home, buddy called the warden and sent them the pics.
Warden paid them a visit, they were warned and after 2 times they would be fined, told them their dogs are supposed to be leashed.
Well next time out there they are running deer again and more pics on cams.
Warden paid another visit, havn't had a problem since,i do believe they got rid of the problem dogs..
And these dogs were running over a mile from their home.
Just glad i didnt catch the big german shepherd in a snare cause he was huge.
Here's the thing about being on stand and seeing a dog running by.... We've all been there... but here's the difference.... Fido the house dog or Josie the 7k working dog wear collars, haven't been roaming the woods for weeks on end and don't look like they haven't been maintained in a month... We've all seen at one time or another those pets that get out vs the stray that's been out chasing shit for weeks... If your hunting a farm chances farmer Al has a couple if not a dozen farm dogs running around....
You know the difference, and use your common sense....

Paying a fine to the state does not compensate me for my loss.
Are you meaning the loss of the deer?
Fuggin mother nature, Dave. GeezSo who's fault is it when the wind shifts or coyotes come along? It's hunting folks, deal with the fact that some things happen beyond your control.
I don't think anyone here is saying it's OK to let your dogs run loose. Shit happens and dogs break chains, sneak out of the door, dig holes, etc. When that happens repeatedly is when it becomes an issue. I couldn't ever shoot a dog for running deer, again it's not the dogs fault.Any of you dog lovers want to send me 500 bucks a month for 20 years I will be glad to let
Your dogs run. Other than that I don't want to hear it

I place a high value on those frosty November sunrises. If something happened and I was no longer able to participate in this grand tradition I would be one bitter son of a bitch if the memory of my last hunt would be that of a stupid dog.
I understand it's a lot of time and money to hunt as I hunt too. But you guys are really saying if your neighbors dog got off it's leash and ruined your hunt you would shoot it? It's called hunting not shooting folks. Sometimes things happen that are out of your control. And everybody here calling the dog owner irresponsible is a hypocrite (as long as it's not a continuous problem). When I need to find the perfect person I guess I should look no further than this forum...
