Just ran into a friend that has a Keystone 24RLS that is in good condition. No leaks or soft floors. Everything works. This is basically a starter camper to see if the kids will enjoy it. It has a slide out queen bed, 4 bunks, ducted air/heat, fridge/freezer, full bath, etc...

Any negatives that I should be aware of?

Figured that we could use it a couple years and upgrade. Like the idea of paying cash for the first one (since kids) to see how much we will actually use it.

Negatives...with buying a camper. Hmmm...realize it's a toy, not an investment. Kids will love it, enjoy being busy all summer long.

I know, you're asking about the camper itself. They all have problems. Shit breaks, it's a toy. I don't know anything about that model though.

Just see if everything works. When they break they aren't always cheap fixes. You can buy 6 window AC units for the cost of one for the camper. Fridge is expensive to replace. Water heater expensive. Everything is specialty and expensive it seems.

Insurance can vary. I pay about $300 a year for mine. That is with an agreed upon value of 12k. Would be cheaper if I just insured it for book value.

Insurance is very affordable. Call them and they can give you an close number over the phone.

If this is a close friend, see if you can tow it down the road. Some of those units like to sway behind the trucks.

Also check with your auto insurance about coverage on the road and camping. I had a buddy of mines camper burn to the ground and wasn't covered, because it wasn't hooked to his truck.

My camper is parked at our camp and I have it as an adder on my homeowners insurance. Not sure of the premium, but it is fairly cheap if I remember. I think less than $300.

Just give all the mechanicals a good run thru, and check seams for soft spots. If you can get on the roof, do so and check for holes, cracks, soft spots (be careful), and if the seams were caulked/maintained through the years.

That's known as a hybrid design (better than pop-up, and mostly enclosed). Great way to add extra room, but not as robust as modern slide out designs. They are usually a bed and have tracks inside that need to make sure are tight.

Have the owner tow it to see how it does. Check all lights. Good luck!!
