Most definitely. I've developed a real hatred of coons over the years that was capped off when I got chickens. Kill every last trash panda you can nail down.
I keep in good contact with the land owners. Communication with them is very important IMO. If they want a certain animal killed, it gets killed on sight. I also coordinate parking with them and the location I'll be hunting.
Beyond that, I go out of my way to at least meet the neighbors of the property. This has worked out extremely well for me. This has also worked out badly. As some people are assholes and only care about themselves. But at least you know up front and know not to hunt that side of the property. Because if a deer runs over that property line, no way can you go get it.
On the subject of communication, I keep in good contact with everyone all year around. I consider them friends.

IMO coons are way more destructive to farmer's crops than deer...especially corn. Coons should be open season year round.
Education is what needs to happen. Educate the farmers on what is causing the damage.
They know damn well what's causing most of the damage, it's just easier to sit on the UTV and shoot deer with a rifle.
Is that what you believe? They will just continue to miss out on money because it's easier to shoot deer. Or will they continue to blame deer because that's the way it's always been?
I know a few farmers, Dave. One in particular whacks em and stacks em on a property I have permission to hunt.
Because he thinks coons do damage and he just wants to shoot deer? Because I find that extremely hard to believe. Or am I taking what you said out of context?
I think he knows coons do most of the damage, but likes shooting the deer because he can see them eating his crops and they are easier to kill. You don't farm for 40 years and not know what does the most damage to your crops.
This dude is set in his ways, and doesn't really take shit from anyone, same with most other old farmers. It's not my property to tell him what he should or shouldn't be doing. Kinda like that situation last year on the other farm where the gun hunters killed 7 doe and wounded a buck, I was advised to not speak with the landowner and just keep my mouth shut. I hunt on permission, I can't afford to lose spots to hunt because a farmer gets crop tags. It is lightly coon trapped by a buddy of mine, but that's only if he has a few in his barn that won't leave.
So if he was educated a little better...(not saying you) (get the farm bureau on hand)
Between May 1st and July 1st caught/dispatched 18 coon outside the chicken coop. Just got back from 2 weeks vacation and the traps are going back out today. Buzzards are probably pissed as their snacks dried up.

I agree coons and crows do more corn damage than deer do. And don't forget groundhogs, they really destroy a section of beans near a den site.
I only shoot coons during the season they are allowed to be hunted. They are furbearers and are not supposed to be killed year round. I love watching them come to my FoxPro. Yes, they are a nuisance, but by law they are protected except during hunting/trapping season.
