EHD in Ohio?

I know there's a post on here about EHD cases in Pennsylvania and E KY but I was wondering if anyone is finding EHD kills in OH yet? If so, where at? It's such a horrible disease and never like to hear about it anywhere. 1st frost can't come soon enough!!

There are posts in that thread about ehd in Ohio. My wildlife officer confirmed that ehd is in Jefferson, columbiana, and Lorain counties. There was 7 dead bucks found in the same creek where one member lives in Jefferson county, I've seen other pics of dead bucks from columbiana as well.

Word on the street is Jefferson could lose 80% of its herd by fall. Not sure if that was total, or just bucks which seem to be more prone to it, but it's a staggering number either way.

Not good news. I'm right on the columbiana Jefferson border.

No cases around my area. We found a couple late last summer near the river here but none this year.

They are all 3 deer counties, except Lorain is allowed an antler less tag.

From a management standpoint, I wonder if there will be any talk of lowering the limit to help the deer rebound.

Without the help of hunters...implement buck only would be my vote.

A true management plan would accommodate situations like this and adjust accordingly (if necessary) before the season even opens.

Bingo! But I guarantee you don't see the DOW lift a finger to compensate for it.

True, but hunters can certainly help expedite a recovery by not filling their tags in an EHD hit area. Hunters have to be proactive in these management decisions.

Correct. Let's hope those hunters in said counties do that.

Education would help. Being open about what is going on in the deer population would help. The guys that go out only a couple of times a year might not realize something happened.

I wouldn't expect to see something on the ODNR website. As far as I can tell, or know, this is all just rumorville on a hunting forum.

Maybe somebody from the suspected counties has first hand knowledge, or has already contacted the wildlife officer in their county?
