Noble county deer & turkey?

Hey, you bunch of miscreants! [emoji16] I figure you guys would be a good source of info. A good friend of mine just picked up a small piece (40 acres) of land in Noble County, right outside Dexter City. I have no clue what the area holds as far as deer and turkey populations. I did see the area is pretty "hilly" and lacks a lot of ag. Going down to help him with some scouting on Saturday, just was wondering if anyone hunts around there and can give me a general idea of what we should be expecting. Thanks guys!

Have hunted noble area since 1990, those where the days Deer everywhere. It's been pretty slim the last 2 years on nice bucks, still can get a doe about anytime if you try. Turkeys are everywhere in that county..

Thanks brother! Yeah cams show a couple decent bucks but nothing special. Definitely a lot of does. Should be interesting for us flat land guys to hut some hills. Hopefully throwing in some food next spring will help the turkey too.

Like anywhere, there are good deer around, you've just gotta have the right piece of land. I've hunted Lower Salem a good bit, and Dexter City isn't too far up the road. Same thing with turkey. Plenty of them around, but you've gotta have what they are looking for in the spring and fall if you want to kill them consistently.

I like hunting the first flat down from the top of the ridge for cruising bucks, and pinch points are always good too. But watch out, the wind swirls something fierce down here

Yep I’ve hunted noble for many years. Own land with family there. Places can be setup great and just like anywhere in Ohio it can have good deer around. I hunted a farm off 78 just north of Caldwell it was loaded, I mean loaded with deer. My own farm is just so so in comparison. Depends on neighbors and all.

Not familiar with dexter city area specifically though. Good luck!

happy to hear! Noble county’s slogan is “getaway to Appalachia” it truly is the foothills and there is very limited AG. I think if you can provide food for the deer on that parcel, it can and will be a great farm! Just my 2 cents.

That's the truth. There isn't a farm field for miles! We're planning around 3 acres of plots plus planting some hybrid oaks, Chestnut, and an assortment of fruit trees. There may be 2 producing oaks on the property so, we have a lot of work to do. It was strip mined years back so lots of garbage trees as well. With a few acres of hinge cuts and all that food, I figure next year we'll be showing you guys the fruits of our labor.

Well if you all have questions on anything, shoot me a message. Happy to help with advice or local spots anyway I am able. Best of luck.

By the way. A kid did kill a 200incher there a few years back. The big boys are around.
