Twas I fellas! Best hunt I've ever been on! I'm currently sitting on a county road in the middle of nowhere because it's one of the few spots I get 4g. So I hung this stand today at 11am on one of the farms Rich and I shed hunted in March. It's 120 acres and 119 of it is CRP, had trails going through it every which way when we walked it. Drove my happy ass down the road today to check it out, found two fresh scrapes right off the rip, and couldn't find shit for good trees. Ended up settling with a triple trunked crooked skinny ass sum bitch and got 14 foot off the ground. I had 3 lone wolf sticks up one trunk and one on the trunk I had my stand on. My setup put me 35 yards down the trail from the two scrapes. It was 60° here today so I didn't expect the deer to move until last light. Looked at my phone and it was 5pm, figured I better stand up. About 15 minutes later I notice two doe come out in the neighbors cut corn from the bedding directly behind the field, then comes two bucks, one I knew I'd kill if given a shot. All the deer made their way over into the crp and the small buck went nose to the ground after a doe. The buck I killed hung back at 70 yards nibbling on grass, gave him a few tending grunts to no avail, all he did was look my direction. Ended up losing sight of him for about 5 minutes until I saw him out in the crp making his way back to where he was at first. Grunted again, all I got was a look. About 5 minutes later he started coming up the trail towards me. He stopped to thrash the shit out of a cedar tree for over a minute, he was 30 yards broadside and I couldn't shoot because of limbs. He finished tearing that up and proceeded up the trail towards me and I knew he was almost as good as dead, until the worst thing ever happened. I had my harness strap up over my shoulder, went to draw and couldn't get my bow drawn! I had to let down, and when I did my arrow rattled off my rest. He heard it and looked right up at me. Had it not been for the limbs blocking his view I think he would of had me picked off. He put his head back down, I flicked the strap off my shoulder and drew back, he's now at 10 yards. Gave him a mehhhh, he stopped and I let him have it right behind the shoulder. Watched him run into the crp 50 yards, wobble, and fall over! All I could do was lean my head against the tree, I was happy as hell, and couldn't believe it just happened! I'd like to thank Rich for being a great friend, if it wasn't for him I wouldn't be here. The landowners are some of the nicest people I've met too, and they welcomed me like I was family. Here's some pics of the buck and my view from the stand.
