First bobcat encounter

I finally saw my first Ohio bobcat in the wild last weekend. After the initial "What the hell is that?" reaction when it walked towards the bottom of the opening below me, I started lip squeaking and gradually called the cat to within 35 yards or so. I did my best to film with my cell phone, the footage isn't great but you can see what it is. Big critter, and really interesting to see how differently it reacted to lip squeaking than a coyote would have. This thing was in no hurry to come to me and seemed to have the attention span of a 3 year old kid. When I stopped squeaking, it lost interest. Pretty cool to see.

That had to be cool to see. Don’t know if they’re common enough for me to run into in central Ohio or not. My stand by the creek is in view of a fox den and I’ve seen it going in and a few times and watched it stalk something. Sitting on the ground back there I had a mink come within two feet of me and sniffed my crossbow.

It’s cool the things we get to see sitting in the woods. Thanks for sharing!

Cool video, but...

If you think that the coyote population is damaging to our deer population, you ain't seen nothing until these varmints get a good foot hold in numbers.
Cats of any kind are natures' killing machines. There are species of birds that are extinct....never to be seen again, due to feral cats (stray house cats). I can't even imagine the damage to the wild game population that will be destroyed by these varmints. :cautious:

Cool video. I’ve seen 5 so far this year. They are very easy to “squeak” in. Like others have said they are bad for wildlife populations. Nothing in Ohio is going to mess with a full size bobcat....coyotes included.

So who on the site will be the first too have one in their snare or foot hold? Like to see that video of the release 😂😂😂

I have a buddy that catches 5 or 6 per year....quality entertainment watching his videos. You can't just put a choker around their neck, it will kill them. You have to get one leg too.

Watched a video of a guy and his wife trying to release a wolf one time. She had a camera and a gun. He said if anything goes wrong drop the camera and shoot 😂

I've watched a few of those where they release the cat, it's free, but doesn't realize it and it won't move. Crazy stuff. One from Ohio (I think), the cat swiped at a truck tire and sunk its claws in.
