Your buddy has a nice Mega Cab...6.4 Hemi if I remember correctly.
Yeh he does... He loves it... I drove it out in Illinois last year and thought it rode and handled great... I know several guys that own Dodges and love them...

I think I’ve got it narrowed down a bit...gasser, GM product. I just can’t justify the extra cost of that damn motor! For no more “than” I tow, I don’t need the extra cost up front, at the pump and for maintenance. Retail? Fugg it, I’m saving myself in every other category. I can get an almost new one for the same price as a 4-5 year old duramax with 150,000 miles. The 6.0 gasser has proven itself to be a solid truck motor.

My FIL has a Chevy 3,500 with only 180k on the dash I bet he's willing to sell. 10k in parts and labor sunk in it the past year, fresh out of the shop yesterday for a fuel regulator.

Would you just buy a damn truck already Phil, I mean Dave, wait, what?
Nothing wrong with shopping. Got to be an educated buyer and get the most bang for the buck.

Why not the 6.2L Dave? My buddy just sold his 6.0 gasser because it wouldn't pull a 20' enclosed trailer thru the mountains. Couldn't get it over 55 going up hills. 3/4 ton. I think he had a gearing issue but wouldn't admit it.

Phil, just having some fun. Nothing wrong with shopping but lack of no decision or too many options will kill a man has been my experience.

Dave I agree. When I mention getting rid of my Duramax for a few yrs as we won't have a camper, I started looking at new 1/2 tons. I wanted a F150 when I bought my '11 Silverado new, but the F150 was $6500-8K more. Man, they are even farther apart for the '19's! I had to go back and look and make sure I was looking at comparible trim/options. I feel your pain in this arena, but I think almost everyone is as a consumer, it's crazy!

My final thoughts are you are not going to be happy with the 6.0 turd. Yes it's reliable, yes there are plenty of parts, but it's no where near a diesel and given how much you drive and having the camper, it will work. But won't be ideal. You'll be out of the 3/36 warranty before you blink and locking it in gear if having to traverse mountains gets old as it stays at 5K rpm and the thing sounds and feels like it's going to puke.

I don't see you being happy with a gasser but as adults, husband's, and fathers we have a responsibility to not just scratch our itch but find the best fit for life and budget. I respect you for that decision and since payload of a 3/4 ton is needed, a GM 6.0 is, what I feel, the right fit. You will just have to deal with the difference and accept. Once accepted, life will be good.

I don’t need a diesel, I want one. When doing the math...I don’t want one that bad. I drive a 4 cylinder on a daily basis, I understand slow and underpowered. 😂

The older I get the more I’m ok with slowing down a bit.
