Walbridge oh
Yeah it looked like it dropped a couple feet from the high off shore winds. If that wind would have been ENE there would have been some serious ice damage on this side of the lake. Back in the single digits by the weekend so it will probably freeze over again.

Walked in to an easy secluded spot this morning and hunted for just a couple hours. Glad I did. Got two more tasty bluewings for the grill!

We scratched out 3 today. Had a single come in exactly like we wanted not long after setting up. My buddy who bought the boat killed it for the first official kill from the boat. An hour later, we had a pair come in and land short, but they eventually swam in and my other buddy and I killed one a piece. Pretty solid hunt overall. Being on the river is all we hoped it would be!

Text one of my good buddies on Thursday since one of his fields is hot right now, and will be pretty much all season per usual. They set up dekes last night and we rolled in at 5:30 to brush in blinds. The frost was heavier than expected and the first group in flared terribly. I grabbed some poverty grass and made a makeshift hand broom and after the first deke, all 7 of us rushed to do the same. It was on after that and we were limited out by 8:15 and had 45#s of goose breasts on ice by 11. Back in the AM to try and go back-to-back on limits.

As a bonus, I got to put my 3rd band on my lanyard. We also had 3 epic shots today with their own twist. The whole group shot well and we killed all 21 in 4 passes, including 9 out of the last group.

Y’all have the large geese or the giants? I’ve killed a few one trip in Maryland some 25 years ago. Some weighed 14#. Would love to kill them again and was some of the best eating waterfowl I’ve eaten.

We get geese over 15#s here. Tons of giant residents around. One of these had a 6' wingspan. I swear we had one that was 21#s a few years ago, but I could be misremembering. Every time we kill a band in that field, we laugh about how close by it was banded. My band from last year was 5 miles up river. This one was about 30 miles down river. They don't work too hard around here and they have more food than they can eat, so they're all pretty big for geese.

We took our maiden voyage on the Mighty Musky today in my buddy's boat. We put the first greenheads in it today too. We picked a stretch of river on the maps and found a spot we liked in the darkness. It wasn't on the X, but we still had a fun hunt. After we picked up, we motored on down river and found the X. Hoping we can hit it up again tomorrow.

Couple of nice curly tails.
