So I had my Fugger ford rant. How about my fugg GM rant? It’s had transmission issues since we bought the truck. Pretty common knowledge in the GM world that the 8 speed transmission is clunky and annoying. They don’t fail, but they just aren’t smooth or anything. Reminds me of a high performance 80’s hot rod. Damn thing shifts HARD! Hard enough to turn tires on gravel sometimes. Other times it shifts as you would expect from today’s half ton trucks.

Been in 7 times for this now and Monday they were to replace the torque converter. I go to pick it up Monday and the dealer tried to tell me they did nothing because GM said so. First pic is to prove that this is from them, second is the close up of the section this is said.

I was not impressed and kinda lost my shit as is was an all around shit day for me. Everything I touched, broke. Started the moment I walked out the front door.

Anyways, I refused to take delivery of the truck and demanded they did another flush at the very least. They did that today and we have the truck back. I will be switching dealers and will likes never return to my local place. They are well aware of this as of today and made zero effort to keep me as a customer.

IMO, GM needs to stand up and buy these trucks back that are having issues. They know they have a problem and don’t know how to fix it. They fixed it by introducing a 10 speed. If this is your fix, make me an offer I can’t refuse on a new 10 speed. I will likely be sending them an email very similar to this post here in minutes.

Rant over, I’ll keep ya’ll posted...

Yep unfortunately what you are experiencing is what they are considering normal. Out of all the silverado drivers I know, we all see it but have had no issue with parts failing which is why they aren't doing anything for you. I cant fault the dealer as they can only do what the manufacturers say and will reimburse them for. They cant rebuilt the truck or tranny for you and if they buy everyone's trucks back that cant deal with it they wont have a business any longer. Not trying to he a dick but it's all about how you drive it. The computer makes the truck do what you want when you want it which is why a lot of guys that cant stand it get a tune because the only way to alter it I'd alter the programming of the truck. GM is not going to do that because they have spent who knows how many hours coming up with the current programming for the average Joe. Just like with everyone else, we dont all drive our vehicles the same or use them in the same manner so your results will vary.
Now to be a dick, if you have issues across the board with all manufactures of vehicles, ever thought it's the driver and not the manufacturers? 😂🤣

Yeah, I’m at fault for a lot of it. I realize that. For sure on my 06’ and how this all started. Since then, I’ve tried to keep my trucks as stock as possible and I’m still having problems. I’m 100% positive it’s because of the price range I’ve been buying my trucks.

This 17’ GMC, is just plain shitty designed transmission tuning. They’ve had self learning transmission for a while in HD trucks without issue.

If I can’t get the bugs tweaked out of this ford. I will likely either sell my camper or buy a brand new truck to tow it with. Seems stupid to me to pay all that money to have this camper...but I tried to talk her out of it. We don’t need what we have.

Lol, momma really likes her GMC...so I doubt it. It’ll likely turn into a 10 speed new one. She even told the dealer “just give me a new Tahoe and we will call it good”

One word Dave - Tundra!

Hell the last GM truck commercial I saw I first thought it was a Tundra from the side profile. Copy cats.

Seeking 1963 C-10 for my next truck. Why spend $60k when I can pay $10k, look cool, and be able to work on them. Seeking a Shortbed to tow the 63 Nova. I’ll be that guy in town that drives old cars.

I’m seriously thinking the same.... The older I get the more I want one..... I’d be happy with another 95 F150 shortbed with a 300 6 cyl 5spd

I'm approaching 3,000 miles on the new girl and have filled up 3x's since the last update. The first two were normal lifestyle driving the daily commute and family chores in-between and on weekends.

9/20: 527.9 miles, filled with 34.2gal = 15.9mpg

9/26: 489.1 miles filled with 30.2gal = 15.9mpg

I filled up on the way home tonight, she had around 14K lbs hooked to her from Friday through Monday AM. I wrote the miles & gals in the log but it's in the truck. I do remember the DIC stated 13.3, but hand calculated was 12.9.

Lifetime DIC average dropped to 15.7 after that tank.

If the dumb asses would flush it and replace the torque converter it would be fixed and done.

They introduced the 8 speed with the wrong fluid. Fluid draws moisture causes issues.

They changed fluids to Mobil 1 which fixed the moisture issue.

Torque converter is glazed from moisture. Replace it and fluid and all will be solid.

Issue is GM is being a dumb ass.

Agreed. I was expecting 13-15 so I'm pleased for a 7,000lb dry weight/10,450lb GVWR square. Still lower than the Duramax, but a $.20+ difference helps.
