You boys are really finding your niche now! Congrats on a successful maiden voyage and the greenheads. I told you the waterfowl bug would get you good. 😎

I didn't get any pics, but some buddies and I had a really good hunt this last Wednesday evening. A picked cornfield with lots of dropped ears... You know what that means. Lol. Lots of birds. 5 of us hunted and we finished with 14 geese and 9 mallards. Should've had 15 geese but someone miscounted. 🙄. All in all a great hunt with good friends though.

We've been grinding out some terrible hunts since we killed that pile of geese a month ago. Conditions have been terrible, but we're putting in the time. This is our first full season with the boat and it's really changed the game for our crew. Tonight we hit some public land in WV and these ponds are perfect for training. We didn't get to shoot, but Gunnar got some good exposure to cold water and held in the blind for 2 hours with any issues. He's already 80#s and shows more promise by the day. Felt good to have him out there, even if I did have to choke back tears when I put Remi's vest on him for the first time. The next generation got his first official start tonight. We got back to the truck in time to watch over 100 ducks dump into the slough we were hunting. With the setting sun and a couple cold Buds, it made for a great scene.

Waterfowl hunting isn’t a hobby, it’s a way of life. It is very expensive and takes more money every year. You already have two daughters, you can afford this lifestyle now. Wait till they move out and revisit this temptation.

Why you pissing on his sandwich. Ain’t no more expensive than any hobby. Never too early to see if you like it. Go w friends w their gear and see what’s up. I’m sure you already have a shotgun, all you need is steel shot and a federal duck stamp. Duck hunting is fast and fun and you can cut up with your buddy’s while doing it.

He nailed it. Waterfowl hunting is no different than deer hunting, or fishing, or gambling, or whatever... You can do it affordably, or you can go nuts and spend your life savings on it. Anyone who decides not to try it because “they can’t afford it” is seriously mistaken and seriously missing out on a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in another light. Jesse will be the first to tell you. It will change a man. And it will change how he views camaraderie in the outdoors. All for the better.

Made a pass on buying our blind this week with the 78-year old landowner to no avail, but we have a chance to rent his building for a place to set up a camp. It was overrun with brush, so the 4 of us cleaned up so he could get access to it and eventually, we'll also have access. We cut in 2 new trails to account for the beaver "damage" which has now created a second hole that's killer wood duck habitat. We'll finish up next weekend with a brush blind in our new spot. We spread 50#s of aquatic herbicide ($300+ for that stuff!) in hopes of opening this thing up enough to be legitimately huntable.

This is the area we're hoping to open up. We know the water levels well enough here to know when we'll have sufficient water. There's a 6" in there today and with 12", it's a legit hole.
