Are they wearing goggle's also? Is a Mask useless with out covering the eyes?

"Useless" is a strong word. Masks are not useless if you don't wear goggles. The mask maintains the same protection for it's intended purpose which is mitigating the risk of you contracting the virus through your nose and mouth. Since goggles have no bearing on your nose and mouth their presence, or lack thereof, has zero bearing on the level of protection the mask affords...

Now what goggles can do is increase your protection from the virus coming in to contact with the membranes of your eyes and leading to infection. To use some funny numbers for illustration purposes. Let's say wearing both will give you a combined 95% protection. Wearing only a mask gives you 80% protection, wearing only goggles gives you a 15% protection.

This is why I draw issue with their statements around healthy people wearing masks. These aren't accurate numbers but will illustrate my point.

1. Full biocontainment suit = 100% Protection
2. Full face respirator = 99.99% Protection
3. N95 Mask = 95% Protection
4. Standard Surgical Mask 70% Protection
5. Your dirty underwear wrapped around your face = 25% Protection
6. Nothing covering your mouth and nose = 0% Protection..

Number 6 being the CDC recommended protection level for healthy people.. Give me a break.

I'd hold on to those a little longer. they'll be worth a lot more in a few weeks when every other kind of dust mask is gone. I'm holding on to my case of N95's until they are worth $100 each.

I don't know how many of you have actually worn even an N95 type of mask for several hours at a time. it is miserable. worse still is a full face respirator with the big, heavy organic vapor cartridge filters. fucking miserable if you have to do it for more than a few minutes at a time. if you are going all in on a respirator, be sure to stock up on replacement filters, too. they don't last all that long when tasked with filtering serious shit.

Here is where a journalist should say.. It's actually about 34k deaths at the moment. And to answer your question it's because the Mortality rate of Influenza is .05 and Corona is tracking 20 times that around 1%

A real journalist should say. Well that is patient zero, it's probable that the people he infected haven't begun to display symptoms yet, like in Italy hundreds popped up overnight, in Korea suddenly it was thousands. This spread for weeks before becoming a health crisis.

DR: Where was the press during the Mediterranean outbreak when the mortality rate was 41%
A real Journalist should say: That outbreak was quickly contained in a small geographic location and had a fraction of the cases. This virus has gone global and new cases pop up daily in new countries.

DR:If they wanted to get crazy about something why didn't they get crazy about MERS or SARS.
Again Dr, those were much smaller outbreaks that were contained quickly. They were never really out of control like COVID-19

DR: We are going to contain this thing, We already have a vaccine in study.
Journalist: No country has been able to contain this "thing". Not even China using every means necessary, to include massive violations of human rights and throwing people in camps. You yourself said in an earlier point regarding UC Davis that "people were walking around without even knowing it" That doesn't sound like containment doc. The vaccine is a year and a half out.

I spent a full day in a gas mask digging foxholes and 2 engagements with opfor at Ft Benning Ga in June. Miserable. Screw a water tube, give me some way to itch my nose.

But yea, good idea, just ask for 12.5% sodium hypochlorite (chlorine). Or go to your nearest chemical producer, Im sure they have it by the barrel. Hit up rural king and get a manual pump. Works like a charm.

Man Dr Pundits containment claims sure doesn't last very long. New confirmed cases of unknown oregin in Oregon, Washington and California. This brings the total to 4. Look for hundreds more over the next few days. By the end of next week we may see them in other remote states.

Surface contamination of shipped items is probably low. Odds are it was an unchecked traveler. Since people can be symptom-free for a long time (suspected up to 14 days) while contagious that's probably how he/she spread it. In some people, they don't even display symptoms. Like kids under 10 can have it and spread it but may only should-like symptoms. Odds are there are hundreds if not thousands more walking around infected and just don't know it yet. Or they think they have a cold or the flu because they don't have any contact risks who have been to China etc. It's not until it escalates to respiratory issues that they might seek medical treatment and be confirmed.
