Setting us up for a nice rally when most of them go back to work after two weeks.
Do you really think that everyone is just going to go back to work and everything will be fixed? Some of those 3.28 million will go back to work. Some will be happy making more money sitting on their fat American ass. Some will return for a few days and get sick. Some will actually be sick. This is a mess and the lazy persons dream. I don’t see this “rally” happening. People will ask for more.

Starting to feel like a punishment to have an essential job or be working from home.

Oh, and if they’re going to raise unemployment by $600 a week, I hope they raise those working by $1,200 a week! The incentives here are going the wrong direction.

I agree with most what ya said. The way I’m understanding unemployment is if you get laid off you will receive your full pay for up to four months.

I’m looking at this stimulus bill and it’s absolutely infuriating. It’s a shame to say I wish it would be vetoed. Not for the part of helping people who are in need of course but the pork in it is absolute bull shit!! Ugh🤬🤬

Here’s just a couple
– $25M for the Kennedy Center
– $350M for Migration and Refugee Assistance
– $100M for NASA
– $75M for PBS/NPR
– $75 for both the National Endowment of Arts & Humanities

Maybe this should be a different thread. I would like to hear others opinions. (?????) I’m all for helping people who need help. But damnnnn!

I didn’t ask to be laid off but here I am. Sole provider in my house for myself, my wife and two kids. Without the extra unemployment they’re talking about we would all have to live on about $400/week. I’m not upset about them adding up to $600 to that. Easy to bitch if you’re retired, still working full time, have a huge savings or are otherwise unaffected (financially).

I do agree people will abuse this but what do you do? Not a normal thing to shut down half the country but since they did, there should probably be some kind of help so there isn’t total chaos and a complete crash of the economy. Money well spent IMO.

Yes I do - not everyone obviously but I know what you meant. The statement was not a short term view. Unemployment benefits have an expiration. Previous high for unemployment was ~695k in 1982. Breached 600k in 2008. A year from now, we will be back to normal unemployment figures on a monthly basis barring other significant, negative economic developments unrelated to this pandemic.

people abuse the unemployment benefit system already. it's a temporary benefit for all who use it, anyway, and these changes to help people out of work because of the Chicomm virus are temporary, too. this extra unemployment money is flyshit compared to the hundreds of billions of dollars people scam from WIC, EBT, Medicaid, etc., and every other libtarded welfare program that hard working American taxpayers foot the bill for.

You might not like this answer.

I spent the max amount of weeks on the system in 2019. I’m not talking out of my ass here like it hasn’t ever been a problem. I understand the cuts in income very well. It seems most of AMERICA has forgotten the Great Depression a short 100 years ago.

The thing you have to keep in mind is that on unemployment, you only receive a percentage of your actual working income, and there is a maximum to what they pay out. Depending on what you do make, that extra $600 may not make up what you are losing by being unemployed due to the current economic situation. Sure, there will be people on the bottom end of the unemployment pay scale that would make out, but that would not be the case with all on unemployment. If I was unemployed tomorrow, I would not make what what my current income is.

Just some food for thought.

Correct. So if a guy was used to bringing home $3,200 a week and got cut back to the max $632 a week. He should’ve been throwing a fit and asked for more?

We are not footing the bill, we are kicking the can down the road for our grandchildren to pay for. This crap cannot continue It just can’t. Why can’t they write a bill to simply address what needs addressing... they always add BS spending to everything.

Unemployment, normally, is supposed to supplement a little bit for short term while you look for another job. Problem is, you’re going to have a hell of a time finding another job if you get laid off right now. It’ll probably be that way for a few months. So they came up with a realistic temporary solution. Federal money to get people closer to what they made. I don’t see any issues whatsoever with this. Working or not, it makes sense why they would do this. I believe they are only doing this for four months.

What is a little more confusing is they are also talking about sending everyone that makes under $75,000/year a check for $1,200. That’s a pretty big range of incomes and living situations all getting the same check. Whether you need it or not. That’s not really assistance it’s supposed to stimulate the economy but still that’s a lot of money.

I don’t like our welfare system, I don’t like how people abuse unemployment and healthcare, I don’t like how we typically encourage people to stay below the poverty level if they’re close to it. This is temporary and totally different.

Of all the things the government blows money on, I just can’t get upset about this one. I don’t think you can compare your situation in 2019 to this. It’s totally different.

This. Yeah I don’t get it either? I’m fine with the unemployment deal it’s 4 months. It’s not a persons choice to be laid off. Also it’s not like people are suppose to be out looking for jobs. For a majority taking a hit right now being laid off I would say they want to go back to their job. When this is said and done.

I also believe if your called back to work and you choose not to go back your unemployment would be cut. (Not sure)

Now on the additional checks to people. I don’t get it. To many variables. This bill shouldn’t have been 883 pages that’s for damn sure.

There MUST come a grass roots movement - TERM LIMITS NOW!
No more Pelosi's, Schumer's, McConnells, long term assholes beholden to special interests and gameplaying politicos.
We all talk about term limits - it's time for us to make something happen!

we taxpayers are most certainly paying for all of it, but the government spends more than we can possibly pay. and you're right, we are totally kicking the can down the road by allowing the boundless government spending to continue.

we digress...

Making $30,000 a year or $130,000 a year, living paycheck to paycheck is still the same.
