The most accurate and positive test in the world does no good if you cant get it developed in time to aggressively test and contain the virus before it spreads nationwide, it further does you no good if it's faulty and you have to go to plan B which is have your states come up with their own tests. It further does you little good if you cant get it produced fast enough a month later it's still "rationed" across America.

The reality is the CDC screwed the pooch and missed the critical window to detect community transmission. The emails obtained through the FOIA from the CDC that I posted yesterday shows that it was a complete shitshow.

A friend of the family and his wife were both displaying all of the textbook symptoms of COVID. They called their primary care provider and left a message. No return call. The next day they spoke to him and he said he would call them back. No call came. They got through to someone at OSU who told them they almost certainly had COVID and to stay at home for 14 days. They asked about testing and we're told that they're rationing tests, and since they were pretty sure they had it, there was no need to test them unless they progressed and needed hospital treatment. They will never show up in the numbers. They will never be contact traced, nothing. Everything that the WHO says that we should be doing we're not doing nearly enough. We're still being reactionary and focused on treatment. Eventually we have to crawl out of our damn holes and take the fight to the enemy.

Risk vs reward

Having them come in to be tested does what? Pads the numbers? But it could infect others. Not like people are getting treatment unless hospitalized. Keep your contagious ass at the house!

Well your dead wrong - wouldn't pick either in the last election - not going to have much of a choice in the next election - don't look at this with a blind eye - leadership definitely put us behind in the pandemic and still is - catching up in a few areas - leadership uhm talk n bout is just not all on Trump - lot of stuff Joe posts up definitely shows a lack in many areas - btw i don't have blind loyalty - just call n a spade a spade - being able to do that is one of the things that makes America great

The point is test capacity and our lack of it. South Korea was able to halt the spread and massively reduce numbers by testing anyone and everyone on a massive scale then do contact tracing. This massively reduced community transmission. Due to the early blunders of our CDC the virus went nationwide in short order. We still don't have enough capacity to test sick people much less catch the non-symptomatic people who are spreading it. If we equated this to a battle plan It's the equivalent of having perimeter but not giving the solders in the holes weapons, instead we're going to concentrate on treating guys when they get wounded. If that's the plan then everyone will eventually be wounded. We need an offensive strategy, hell even a defensive strategy would be good, and we needed it a month ago. Hiding in our houses is not a sustainable plan.

Meanwhile in the US we continue to see massive gains day after day and on a far steeper scale than Italy ever was. Some of that is due to our ability to test better but it's simply discovery of existing cases in hospitals. We need early detection to help halt this.

I'm interested in what resources, if any at all, you're using to stay informed regarding the current crisis/situation/emergency activity in the region/community that you reside.

I have a radio scanner in my home and an application (Scanner Radio) that is loaded on my smart phone.

I also have NBC4 local news, two weather alerts, ODOT, FEMA & CDC applications loaded on my smart-cellphone as well that are configured to alert me for the latest important/relevant information.

My listening observations just over the past few days on the radio scanner, there has been an obvious increase in elder persons needing emergency services for fever & breathing type issues. Last night there were three different persons in the area that needed EMS transport to the hospital for those type of conditions. That to me is above normal, especially during the late night hours.

So, what others are out there that some of you use to stay informed and would recommend, news websites included?

Appreciate any additional information shared, thank you!

I prefer raw data. Unfortunately, due to a lack of testing, we have a lack of useful data. I would love someone to show hospitalization rates for those with respiratory distress pre and post-outbreak. Ohio is the only one I've seen but that is just for people tested positive showing respiratory symptoms.
