Looking for a new carry gun. I use to carry a ruger sr9c and it was ok.

The two I'm currently looking at would be:

Ruger security 9 model 3816 with laser sight.

Walther PPQ M2

Leaning more towards the Walther because of the shorter trigger reset. I haven't gotten either in my hands do to this damn virus so I'm looking to see if any of you have.

The Ruger security will be very similar to the SR9C you used to carry. I actually was a big fan of the SR9s but if I had to choose between the two I would take the Walther. I’ve shot the security 9 and didn’t care for the trigger, however it was a brand new gun so it might get better with time. I’m a big fan of most of Ruger’s firearms I just didn’t love the security 9 when I shot it. I will say it wasn’t terrible and it is priced right but just not for me.

The trigger was my only issue with the SR9C. I had a hard time getting the trigger to travel far enough forward to reset. Seemed like it was way too far forward for my liking. I was hoping ruger fixed that travel issue with the security 9 but it doesn't sound like it.
Price on the ruger I can get for $357+tax and I haven't checked on the Walther but should be in the $500+- I think.

Are you dead set on those two options? There are a few others in the Walthers price range that I think are better options. Granted I’m sure as you know it’s all personal preference and you should definitely try before you buy but check out the sig 320, Glock 19/26/45/43, smith M&P 2.0 in my all have better resets then both of those two in my opinion.

The Ruger doesn’t have the worst trigger. It’s a half cocked double action instead of a striker which isn’t really too noticeable but just wasn’t for me. But it is priced well and would make a great carry gun.

Held the sig a few weeks ago because a guy at work was trying to sell it for $350. Just didn't like the feel. Seemed like I solid gun. I'm not much of a S&W guy unless it's a wheel gun. Glock is solid and I've held a few in the past. I was going to try getting the wife to try out a G42 but it was sold out. She ended up with a Walther PK380 and I gotta say I was surprised with it. After messing with hers is the reason I have the Walther on the short list.

I’ve never owned anything outside of the Walther P22, but I love them. Kids love them. Wife loves it. All around fun little pistol to plink around with.

The PPQ is a fantastic gun. The Pk380 is a double/single action and the PPQ is striker fired so the trigger and reset of the PPQ will be more similar to your SR9 (probably a little better but similar) rather then the PK380. Is there any ranges around you that allow you to rent? I’d definitely try and rent a few different models and see if anything “feels right”. I mostly carry glocks they feel right to me but there are plenty of people who hate glocks.

I only have 1 range but it's a 40min drive and the other range that was a bit further is now closed. Trying to find places to get hands on is a pain in the ass and it's even worse now with everything going on. I'm not completely against glock and with the aftermarket accessories they have available it's crazy lol.

Wife loves hers and she shoots it well. Kinda scary how well she shoots it lol.

I like how easy it is to rack a round and the recoil isn't bad at all. Great little gun for sure.

I keep my carry guns mostly stock other then night sights on them and I have a weapon light on my night stand gun, I’m not sure how true it is but I’ve read that lawyers will use any “upgrades” against you in cases where you need to use your firearm in self defense. I have a few “pimped out” range glocks that are a blast to shoot. However if I had to choose one pistol for the rest of my life it would be a stock Glock.

Good luck! The gun stores are crazy right now haha hopefully the panic will die down soon and supply come back. 9mm ammo is nonexistent around me, glad I keep a healthy stock on hand.

I bought my dad a PPKS off a friend. It is a nice little piece. If it weren't so pretty AND belonged to my deceased father, I would carry it. Given the history, it will stay in the safe..

I guess they could consider upgrades in a case. Never really thought about that but I can see some sleazy lawyers trying to use it against you.
The ruger was on backorder when I checked 2 weeks ago. My guy told me he didn't know how long it would actually take to get it in. Never looked to see supply since I have plenty I can reload 😁. I do know the guy I use sold every gun he had in stock as well as all his ammo about a week and a half ago.

I'll keep Glock on the list. I just need to get my hands on a couple to see how it fits.

My suggestion is to handle and shoot as many possible.

I have love walther hand guns. I remember being drawn to adds of the first gen p99's in magazines when i was a kid long before i ever fired a handgun. i have a ppq m2 and a pps m2. Nothing beats the walther for me on the polymer striker fired pistol front. I did replace the factory sights with novack nightsights.

I carry a sig p320 variant for work (M18). They are nice guns but they do not do it for me like the ppq.

My wife is a glock fan girl and and owned 2 gen 3 19 and 26, a gen 4 19, and a gen 5 19 mos. Glocks are nice. They are much better after replacing the trigger.

I also have a fondness for the classic sig P22X series guns. But they are not as light and thin as the polymer handguns.

Thanks for the info Tom. Did you do any trigger work on the PPQ 2?

No, the ppq stock trigger is really crisp and has a nice reset. It is light enough for my purposes of home defense and idpa match use. By far the nicest factory trigger on any of the polymer striker fired pistols.

The CZ p10c is a close second on the factory trigger front. I only shot one at a rental range once but the p10c is worth taking a look at too. The p10 series was just coming out when i was looking to buy. i was not interested in owning the first production run of any firearm.

With the lack of shops open because of the rona I ended up reading your guys responses and watching more YouTube videos then I care to mention. I finally made my final decision and had my buddy order a Walther PPQ M2. I had to wait because of backorder and finally got my hands on it a few days ago. It fits my hand really well and has a good balance to it. Hopefully I will get out tomorrow and actually put a few rounds down range to check this trigger out.
