Do you have a dirty little secret?

I try to learn and be able to do as much as I can, and I'm a pretty handy and capable guy, more so than most. But embarrassingly, two things escape me.....
1) I can't sharpen a knife worth a shit. And I own a Worksharp - and every other little fucking gadget to pull a knife thru and sharpen it. I have a steel. I have sharpening stones. I can make a blade sharper, but I've never made something so sharp it was scary. I'm glad my manhood isn't pegged to my knife sharpening skills. It's a dirty little secret.
2) Fucking caulk - I can't run a straight, pretty caulk bead to save my life. If someone was holding a gun to my wife's head and told me "Lay down a 2ft long bead of caulk and make it consistent, or I'll blow her brains out..." I'd have to look at her and say sorry and goodbye.... It's a dirty little secret.

I can run the snot out of a bobcat. Forks, bucket, pushing snow, splitting firewood. Hook the Harley rake to the front of it to prep a lawn and I suck. Can use tractor attachments for lawns. Have owned the Harley rake 10-15yrs and still am terrible with it. I can get by if I go really slow on a small section. Anything sizeable and I take the tractor.

I’m decent at the knife sharpening with my lansky and can run a decent bead of caulking. Taping sheet rock is a tedious process for me but hang it good with tight corners for those who can.

I can't build stuff without directions or visualize let's build a deck and just do it....

My knives are generally shaving sharp when i get done with them.

Hell, some spackle guys fly over it and it doesn't even need sanded... Definately an art...

Have you tried clamping the knife and moving the stone?

Who gives a shit about caulk, form, fit and function! A wet spoon can make it look pretty.

Its no secret that I can't handle body fluids. Blood i can handle. The rest of them is no go. Even piss makes me gag.
Congrats! It’s been a while since I’ve actually laughed out loud reading something....I had a visual of you shooting ropes on the old lady then passing out!😂
As slow as it is today, I needed something to cheer me up.

bite your tongue. only queers finish a bead of caulk with a spoon. beading caulk nicely is a source of great pride for those of us that can do it. I fucking hate caulking with a passion, but I'm really good at it.

If you the poor bastard having to sand the drywall after doing the finish work or a repair, you learn real fast how to float joints, feather edges and mix mud like a pro.

speaking in front of a crowd is like Kryptonite to me. I don't know how I managed when I was the president of OSTA. was awful hard on me. I'm a way better "behind the scenes" kind of guy. the spotlight ain't for me.

Use water based caulking. After drawing the bead, take a wet a t shirt, single layer over your finger and wipe down the bead. Make a final pass with a wet finger and you should have a bead worthy of a training video.

This. ☝️

As for knife sharpening, a good honing oil, a nice stone, and patience is all I can offer. I'm not the best, but decent enough to be functional.

My dirty secret is how mechanically un-inclined I am overall. I'm a decent carpenter and electrician, but I can't weld or work on motors. For a country boy, I lack some upper-level maintenance and repair skills I wish I had. Thankfully I have you guys when I need ya, and the means to pay an expert when I have to. And YouTube. Without it, I'd be way worse off.
