The face of a house dog. Obedience is on point, but he needs more hunt experience and a better trainer. Still 2 years ahead of Remi when it comes to hunt exposure, so I remain hopeful.

Just a quick and literally dirty hunt in this mud hole. Water levels at our blind have been 2-3' below normal for a while now and it's a straight slop hole. We had 8 black ducks swim in from the river, but we got a little antsy and boogered up our chances at them. Disappointed we couldn't put him to work, but he did great staying in the blind, even though I caught him giving those ducks the stink eye once he figured out they were there. Was good to see him show interest and the guns going off didn't bother him. Baby steps.

Talk about a shit day this weekend.... Weather was right, wind was decent, get to the blind.... destroyed by high water in November. No biggie, we were able to improvise and just set up on the bank. Decoys out, first light starts to break... flock of geese swings by prior to shooting light... man this is gonna be a great day. I'll get my best friend his first duck, or kill of any sort. Fast forward to 10:30... we pack up because not 1 single duck was seen. We only heard 2 shots. Couple theories:
Lots of corn shelled in our area in the past week or two. Maybe they were in the fields getting fat on easy food.
Lots of pressure in the area. Pheasant release, tons of small game guys out.
New outdoor gun range opened. Maybe they need some time to get used to all that commotion.

Anyone do any good this weekend?

The lack of enthusiasm on his face pretty much sums up our season. Been another grind it out kind of year.

We've been loaded with mallards and black ducks up here since our season went out. Hopefully with the ice we're making the past couple of days they'll start heading south and your season improves. I'm not sure what's worse... rotting during duck season, or being covered in birds you can't hunt. It's torturous up here right now.

The grand finale. Good and cold, but a real lack of birds. Seen enough to keep it interesting, but they're on a mission to feed.

You know the best part of that post? Even though you’re not killing ducks, I can tell just by looking at your picture that you guys are having a great time. More than likely BS’ing, drinking coffee, telling stories, and making fun of one person or another. That’s what I love most about duck hunting and especially duck hunting with good buddies. The enjoyment of the hunt goes well beyond the pulling of the trigger.
