Oh I think I'd have a little talk with him about hunting 30 ft up... Kind of extreme... The higher you go, the more deer your bound to lose... Just my opinion ..
I sit 25-30 feet.... have lost my fair share of deer being an archery hunter but it wasn’t due to being up high in the tree... care to elaborate a little on why you think sitting high has a higher opportunity of less lethal shots on a deer or more loss? Just curious is all.

I'm sure some will disagree, but. The higher you go puts a steeper angle on your arrow... IMO... The whole idea of archery hunting is to double lung the animal... If I'm 30 ft up a tree the likely hood of one lunging an animal is greater ( when shooting at an animal let's say 30 yds and under ) A deer shot in one lung can go a long way without being recovered... Again some will disagree, but that's their own opinion...

I gotcha, but I feel it’s all in the person/ archer. Angle and arrow trajectory does play a lot in the minds of every bow hunter and I agree to your point. The higher you sit, the greater the angle and the more that COULD go wrong as far as shot selection and the number of opportunities you will have on said deer. I’ve always believed in getting up in the foliage, the higher the better without pushing it. Yes, it does limit some of the shot windows I have especially under 10-12 yards but it’s all in how you play the game and how disciplined you are as a hunter. Knowing what shot will be lethal and which ones you shouldn’t take. Or where to send the arrow if that 10 or 15 yard shot is all you’re going to have. Thanks for sharing your opinion man! I’m always looking to get another bow hunters perspective!!

Chance... When taking a shot at a deer I always try to aim at the exit point of the arrow... Before releasing an arrow try to take into consideration where that arrow is going to exit... Double lunging a deer will always result in a recovered deer... As far as tree stand height, I always try to use a tree that has surrounding cover that I blend into... Take into account where the deer my come from and put the tree behind you, don't be hanging out on the side... No need to go 30 ft. up.. Also going higher puts you up where there are more limbs, thus cutting down on windows to shoot through... Again this is just my opinion and what do I know....

Hey! I completely get it. Like I said I truly enjoy listening and learning from other hunters. Down in Florida we do things a little different so I appreciate the insight of someone with experience in hunting such as yourself. Back to your point about exit, yes. I always shoot for exit as well and know where I want to shoot before the arrow gets sent on a ride. But my opinion is different about height. Not only am I less likely to get busted by a deer winding me, being that high chances are they won’t be looking up either. But it also varies on where I’m sitting. If on a hillside it’s going to differ on how high I sit as opposed to sitting on a flat bench or in a flat swamp. Two very different opinions but we both want the same result. Clean ethical archery kills and to hunt safely and create memories. The pictures below are of a doe a took from about 25-30 feet out of a tree this year.
