Boy this picture sure reminds me a bit of the first Ohio buck I killed with a bow in 1995. I had set up a stand in the Big Holla at the southern end and not long after daylight a dandy 5 point came down and stood broadside at 15 yards. The shot was perfect and he ran back the way he had come, towards the tractor path that led into the bottom. Perfect morning as I got my dad and we went down to gut and bring out the buck. I had another tag so I went out later that evening to try to shoot a doe and set up in the corner of the field where we call it the Bone Pile. A good two hours before dark I heard what sounded like antlers rubbing on a tree. Soon I see a buck coming out on the edge of the field to make a scrape. He thrashed the ground and tore into that overhanging limb like he was the King of the woods!! I had never seen an Ohio buck so big and as he turned to walk across the field I was curious to try this new thing people were talking about called the 'snort wheeze'. Sure as shit he turned on a dime and walked my way!! It was then when I realized how big this buck really was!! The mass was unreal, the beams swept up towards the sky and he had giant crab claws on the ends!! Definitely to this date the biggest Ohio buck I had ever seen!! He stopped at under 20 yards completely broadside looking around for what seemed like an eternity. Boy I can still picture him in my mind today as I type this, the one that got away because I shot a nice buck earlier that morning. No regrets though......

That shelter reminds me of....
“This one time at Mingo” when there was a micro burst that tore through a tent or two at the far end of camper row.
Remember that?
