Bored while turkey hunting I looked up some info on these box turtles.

On average they live 50 years in the wild but can live to 100. The female can retain sperm for 3 years before allowing herself to fertilize her eggs. This is done so that if environmental conditions aren't right she can lay eggs next year. And like trees you can count the rings on a large scale on their back to get pretty close to their age. The males have a divot in the bottom of their shell to fit on top of the females, the females are flat.

This is no Box Turtle, Just an old Snapper that found his way into CJD3's yard and his daughter saw him and put him back into our lake.

Not a box turtle but this fella was in the road. I didn't have anything to put him in for the short drive to an unfished pond so I wrapped him in a blanket. That lasted about 30 seconds until he Houdinid out of that and was back there scratching around. I look in my mirror and there he is, just chilling and enjoying the ride in the cool air.
