I wish this country would focus more on teaching financial education at a young age vs. trying to figure out how to get everyone more money....
Although on the surface I liked this for reasons Jesse listed - I cannot help but think of some of the trickle impacts this will have, more specifically to team sports. Coach's will need to put a large emphasis on interplayer relationships and drama, far more than before, or risk moral degradation in the locker room. You already saw this in years past when a QB or WR gets all the attention and the lineman who works his tail off, is all but forgotten.
I believe in the past some of this was able to be overcome as there was a focus on the "team" and doing what is best for the betterment of the "team". When money is involved.....it will only make this obstacle a larger one to overcome. I believe this will further drive the actions of players to feel they need to create a brand, be recognized, be cocky, etc. all for the financial opportunities at an endorsement.
So much time in a person's life to make money and be recognized - I always loved the fact that college sports seemed to be solely focused on the team vs. the player and the drive to win and be recognized was driven by the love of the game.
I hope that continues - sorry if I am being a pessimistic pete haha, I think these types of changes have undefinable reactions, and only time will tell of the issues or non, that do or don't arise.
