With truck prices being outrageous, I am looking to downgrade. With that comes rust, lots of rust. A 20 year old truck seems to run fine still, but is rusted to shit. So I will have to do something to stop it from breaking in half. POR 15 comes to mind as I know a few of you use it. @hickslawns is one for sure, but I know others do.

I know I could search the internet but I don't trust the days of reading more than what you guys say. I know I can find lovers and haters. One of my biggest concerns would be the prep. Do I have to clean it all to raw metal before applying? Ideally, I'd like to just spray the entire undercarriage after pressure washing. Will this work or will it just trap the rust/moisture and make the problem worse?

How often does this process need to take place?

As everyone knows, my truck record hasn't been good since joining TOO. This next one ain't gonna be all that nice, but I want it reliable and capable.

From what my neighbor told me, you paint it right over the rust and all. He used a brush.

Any flaking you’ll have too remove with a wire brush or something suitable too remove it. A foam brush works much better than bristle brushed. Pick up a tyvek suit and head and face coverings because that shit needs too wear off, scrubbing on it doesn’t get the results you'd hope for….
Not sure about the current product, but the one we used when we did it had too be painted over if it was going too be exposed too any UV…..

Nope, automotive paint quality…. No diluting needed…. I’ve know folks who’d sprayed it before. Make sure you cover EVERYTHING that you don’t want it too come in con with….

I know a guy not too far from you that has a sandblaster, which I will most likely do to my F350 again when I tear it down. I intend to restore that truck to perfect condition. I've done it before, and it does a fantastic job. Just have to be careful around anything plastic or rubber stuff. More time consuming and perhaps a bit more money, but IDK that for sure as a solution compared what you're doing.

Regardless, wish you success in getting your new set of wheels taking care of. I've been watching the truck market myself over the last year. There's a truck just like my F250 that I would love to buy and it's priced fairly, but it's way out west, which I'm still considering flying out there and drive it back.

Nothing official yet. 03' duramax on my radar though. Awaiting to look at it after it gets put back together. It was painted last weekend. We will see how well the guy did on the rockers and quarters.

J summed it up pretty well. We do our dump trucks frames and beds about every 4-5 years. No UV protection. It will fade on a dump bed but can be painted over with something which won't. Probably not an issue in your application.

Stuff doesn't scrub off. I've never sprayed. Just brushes. I'd suggest placing something on your floor or you'll make a mess of your shop floor. Thanks goes out to my guys who made an abstract painting of a dalmation.

Goes on super thin. Doesn't take much to have it run. Multiple applications is preferred for me. Yeah. Pretty much everything J said. Lol

I’ve done powder coated bumpers, sandblast, a little grinding. POR15 and then shot with enamel. Lasted longer than I needed it too. Held up good through a few NE Ohio winters. Knew a guy who’d done the same, minus the enamel. Looked like crap after a year. Almost faded gray…

Pressure washer with a degreaser and then fresh water rinse, will also help out.

The only pic that I have handy of the motor that I sandblasted myself. Pretty much everything on the motor; original intake, outtake, block & valve covers. The heads are new rebuilds though and the oil-pan was new. I did the driveline, plow, plow-frame, and some of the truck frame under the bed as well, but I don't have any photos just handy for ya. I painted after the sandblast.

When I do the truck again, it will be painted with quality stuff. The truck is still super solid despite all the winters I plowed and salted, about 10 years as a regular work truck and nearly two years parked . Motor stills looks good too after 12 years, just needs a little work. I wanted to get on it, but we recently got the approval to build our new home, so, it'll be on the back burner once again in my list of priorities.

I love this truck! Takes me back to the ole-days.

Media/sand blasting is beyond what my goals are. I just want to protect my truck, not have a show truck.
