Figured I should make a thread to document the adventures my pup and I get into this year.
Just got back from my first grouse/ woodcock camp with the pup in the northern section of the LP. It was very wet the whole trip. But, we had an absolute blast and moved a lot of grouse and woodcock. While he and I didn’t hunt a lot since he is young, the time spent at camp and with the other dogs should go along way. He impressed me a lot on a rather long hunt, finding 2 woodcock we shot.
It was stressful having the pup off leash in the thick cover and country I had never been in before, even with a gps handheld
, collar, and watch pair. Him and I will continue to work on recall and I not “joysticking” him. Hoping to find a range that both him and I are comfortable with along with a “check-in” process while hunting. I’m sure that will come with time
