Figured I should make a thread to document the adventures my pup and I get into this year.

Just got back from my first grouse/ woodcock camp with the pup in the northern section of the LP. It was very wet the whole trip. But, we had an absolute blast and moved a lot of grouse and woodcock. While he and I didn’t hunt a lot since he is young, the time spent at camp and with the other dogs should go along way. He impressed me a lot on a rather long hunt, finding 2 woodcock we shot.

It was stressful having the pup off leash in the thick cover and country I had never been in before, even with a gps handheld
, collar, and watch pair. Him and I will continue to work on recall and I not “joysticking” him. Hoping to find a range that both him and I are comfortable with along with a “check-in” process while hunting. I’m sure that will come with time

My biggest fear was a dog out and not hearing them. The training collars made for some very comfortable days afield.
The biggest thing that goes a long way is a connection and yard training. That’ll get you both comfortable with each other and in the woods as well.
If your dog listens in the yard on your commands, it’ll transpose too the field also.
You just got get too that comfort level is all….

Great looking pup! Very familiar looking landscape too. I went up last year with my dogs and would love to go again! Nothing better! Looking forward to your updates throughout the year.

There's a piece of public in SE OH that I deer hunted last muzzy season and jumped 6 grouse one day and 4 more the next. Rough ground. Un reclaimed strip mines. Let me know if you're interested in info
That’d be some great info if you don’t mind passing that along! I appreciate it!
