Keep at it Nick... Good Luck...
I’m at it, worked my ass off and put lokon n not too far away from other spot. All the deer are going through these low, dark, viney ridges….2-3’ elevation. On on a river bottom w giant cottonwood and sycamore trees. The rest is squirrel heaven trees. My only shots are to my right and back and basically under me.

Well the setup was good but not perfect. Had a deer come from behind me. I stood up easily and the deer bounded off, didn’t even get a glimpse of it. Half hour later I have 3 does come out in front of me under 25 yards w no shot. One passed in a hole that I had but before I could finish my draw she passed. Two walked away and the other turned and started heading upwind which was to my right. Another opening and she stopped perfectly 22 yards away broadside. Slowly drew my bow back snd settled in and released. Shot looked good and she bounded about 30 more yards away and stopped, started walking flickering her tail. I thought, I got you. 2 hours later I get down and Hunter meets me to track. Pick up my arrow and ut oh. Not much blood and hair in my fletching. Looked like fat smeared on my arrow. Anyway 15 yards later we pick up the heavy blood trail and the sycamore leaves are painted. We walked a 100 yards and she was bleeding good. Another 100 and the blood was half. The last 150 yards there were spots of good blood and drops at others until we had to search for blood as she went into some thick crp grass. Finally we gave up and the writing is on the wall. I screwed the pooch. We back at the motel, 66 degrees outside and windy.
We haven’t seen much of anything in the evenings so we gonna sit this one out. He is now set up where I seen 16 deer yesterday evening, and I will hunt my spot in the morning.

Layne stayed in the woods hunting and seen sqadouche. Me and Hunter deboned his two deer and cut meat. We also cut the inner loins and marinaded them for tonight’s supper. Night before last we did back strap and cream tators. Supposed to rain so if it’s not raining we will hunt in the morning.
We were gonna stay and gun hunt that starts this weekend but we had enough. We will hunt Friday morning and pack up. Sleep some then hit the road very early Saturday morning.

Well w a evening and a day left of bow season and before the gun season, I think it’s a wrap. Wind is blowing over 20 and gusting in the 30’s. Tomorrow’s forecast is worse for wind.
This morning I had a doe in range for 10 minutes feeding w no shot. Later a 6pt came in. Hunter had one doe far off w the six, a 4 and a spike. Layne had two does and shot one. Tracked it all the way to the river where it died trying to cross or made it. 14 hour drive home or 11.5 hours to the camp for some more hunting. Muzzle loader season is opening a n my property Saturday. Decisions decisions

I decided to stay and hunt my property. I had brought my 35 whelen to hunt Missouri so I actually worked out good. I have a few shooters, not sure if I want to kill them as they are the same size I’ve been killing. Around 130”, our deer don’t score well but have big bodies and lots of mass. Anyway, my hit lister is the wide 8 from the last few years. Seems like he’s smaller this year but more mass. There is also a slick six w a missing brow which makes him a 5 that might take a ride if he shows up.

Hunted this morning and seen in the upper teens in does. Got out at 10:30 and returned at 3 pm. Seen a few does, maybe 12 or so and had a buck in range but I couldn’t tell which one he was so I passed. Kinda sucks but I’m not in a killing mode. Nothing I want to mount and we don’t need the meat so maybe he lives to see another year or one of the boys get him. Either way it’s fine w me. Overall a good day in the woods.

Hey Nick... Somewhere I saw where you got a very impressive buck in Missouri... CONGRATS BUDDY..Sorry I'm late for the response, but service here in Illinois sucks... So does the hunting this year... Lack of deer movement and horrible weather...
