Just got wrapped up with a 3 mile hike on new permission for this year. Nothing to write home about other than a few fresh scrapes and deer sign I can assume from post rut. Saw a bachelor group last night in a hay field by the house that consisted of 6 different young bucks all with both sides still hanging on… I had a few bucks holding on through the second week of April last year so I’m wondering if they don’t shed a little later up this way… gonna keep grinding until I find some more. I did see a couple young morels that I marked on the map today, so that was a plus!

Walked 5.5 miles midday before rain. Walked a spot I hadn’t walked since early February. Found a nice half shed buck inside my first mile of walking. The side that was still attached to the skull popped off with little effort. Walked another 2.5 miles to find his sheds mate dropped earlier approximately 300-350 yards away within 40 yards from me covering the last of the property before heading to another farm. Talk about LUCKY! Rodents did minimal damage which sucks but it coulda been worse. I think I may have found a matched set of this same deer 3-4 years ago on same farm not 400 yards away from where he died. If it’s the same deer he didn’t grow much, IMO other than just adding more mass to his beams and bases. I’ll look for them later and show comparisons.
