What do you do in a situation like that where Pearl is with you but you see a gator. After seeing that, I’d never let my dog in that particular waterway ever again. Do you guys bring kayaks in the event that you see a gator?
Well, this is a public forum so I will keep it clean. The small gators are no problem. Most big gators are in deeper water by the house. Up here a big one can have a hole in a dried up brake. When it cools down, say 77 degrees water temp gators go dormant. I didn’t bring pearl as too many factors this weekend…..heat, snakes, skeeters, gators and the main purpose was to work/cut the property. Plenty people don’t take their dog during the teal season. I do, but depends where we hunting. Get to pond early and shine a light, you gonna have a good idea of your gator situation. Some pepper is a good deterrent

Went back to the property to top seed a sack of white clover and put cams on mineral sites which were tore up. Had 4 velvet rack bucks easy across the turn row right in front of us. Moved a ladder stand and set up shooting lanes. Set up a lock on where we had pics of a freak nasty. Set up 3 tactacams and a Bushnell and will be getting pics soon, hopefully a target or two. No baiting this year cause Wlf found one cwd deer.
On the downside, the tornado that came through this spring and neighbors roof flipped over my camp putting a hole in porch. When I opened up the camp in the kitchen I got water making the ceiling sag and stick on tiles buckle. I taped it up before we left. Gonna bring stuff next weekend to fix everything.

So I’ve been getting a bunch of pics of does and only one spotted fawn. Yes our rut is late. As early as mid December running thru January and longer. Anyway, my cams are on salt licks/ mineral spots. I have this one doe that actually puts her whole head in under the water/mud. I’m wondering why, did she figure out it helps w flies and skeeters perhaps? I did get a pic of a 2yr old 8pt and a spike so far.

so Cody that was w us last weekend, we were discussing deer and their habits and I said we give deer to much credit for resting cognitive thinking. We were talking about salt licks and people say they ate a hole in the ground. Well….yes and no. I told him if he walked through that muddy hole, how much mud would be on his feet and legs? He said a lot, I said right, it’s not being eaten. Look at the legs and head on this doe.
This might be a good conversation piece to talk about our beliefs in what deer really know or learn from us.
