ATV broadcast sprayer

Anyone have any experience with a good one? A combo broadcast and spot would be awesome. Found ticks 2, 3 and 4 on the year tonight alone. 2 on me from tonight and a plump one on the dog. I barely even walked in the grass so they are pretty close to the house.

I need to spray around the house. I will probably be spraying around 1 acre total to lay down a nice big barrier.

Also, what do you guys recommend spraying down?

I've had one of these for several years. I had to replace the pump around year 7 or 8. It's been a good unit overall.

It actually hurts my ears! I've been arguing with my wife about it. I'm using Wondercide. However, I did not put it on today because I wasn't anywhere near the woodline. I was right next to the house and my shop just spray painting a few things. I let my guard down.

I think my wife might be on board after tonight though.

I have a Fimco also. Maybe 2 of them. Can't remember the brand of the other one. Tractor Supply, Northern tool, or similar stores carry them. I really don't think there is much difference in them other than the pump. The rest is tank, fittings and hose. Do your homework on the pump. Even then, not hard to replace. I've swapped one too.

+3 on the FIMCO sprayer. I’ve got one with a 30-gal tank, wand sprayer and a boomless nozzle system. I think I got it from TSC if I remember right. Not cheap, but well worth the initial investment.

Spray your clothes down a couple times, letting it dry in between coats. For the dog, get a seresto flea and tick collar, it’ll limit the # of ticks getting on it. We use those on both our dogs and rarely find one attached too them. Just check it periodically throughout the week.

Good thing I read the post all the way through….I was going to say that Chuck posted on here a couple years ago about one he got from sportsman’s guide…but now I don’t have to!

@P8riot just clean the screens well. You can burn them up if the pick up screen is covered. Flush pump with water and rinse the tank real well. Store somewhere it won't freeze. I am probably missing something.

That sounds about right. I didn't know if there was a pump cleaner or something like that. I'm pretty easy on my equipment and I always clean all tools before I put anything away. Except the ATV...there's now way I'm washing that every time!

Run ammonia through it, that was recommended by the farmer I know up here as well as some searches I did when I had the problem. I guess ammonia is a neutralizer for the round up. Then use plenty of clean water to thoroughly rinse it after. Like others said store it where it will never freeze as well. Mine is sitting on the shelf in the basement as I type this.

So far so good! I got the Fimco 15 gallon trailer style 1.2gpm. I had it hooked up to my zero turn so I could maintain a steady speed. The nozzles ended up about 16" from the ground which seems perfect because it really drives the Permethrim past the grass to the ground. I did around 2/3 of an acre.

I stirred them up! I was walking to my shop and I saw one crawling on the cement driveway. I kicked at it and it reared up on its hind legs and was reaching out like they do on the grass. I promptly pulled out my utility knife I always keep on me and cut it in half. I got them scrambling.

I run an old cheap moultrie one. works okay and I've replaced a bunch of parts due to my neglect or damage. Most parts are out there if you hang on Google long enough.

Check out BIFEN for a chem. We dont have a big tick problem but do mosquitos and black flies....works great. That said, and would suspect many fall into this, be careful around flowers as insecticides will often kill honey bees and monarchs.

tying the two together- Bifen is milky...and those suspended solids are always worth rinsing a sprayer after. Another good quick tip is bring the sprayer pump and all chems indoors into a warm area over the winter.

I have a backpack 5 gallon sprayer. Always run a gallon of clean water through it after whatever I spray. Final use for the season, I run all the water out of it, turn it upside down, open the trigger on the wand and let it gravity feed backwards. Elevate the wand above the tank, lock the trigger open and back off the tip wide open.
You could probably use an air compressor too blow out all the water as well, either way works.

The directions called for running RV anti-freeze through it and leaving that in the lines/pump for the winter. I thought about the air compressor thing too but feared damaging diaphragms or small o-rings.

Its not that big even though its a trailer model. I could just take the wheels and the rudimentary axle off and bring it in.
