We’re (the wife actually) is wanting to get a new set of cookware. For you seasoned veterans who handle cookware on a daily or semi daily basis, what’s your choices?
The big box store set we currently use have served adequately for close to 10 years. But I think she’s wanting too step it up with a good set…..
 
Daughter got us some stoneware pans for Christmas and they are by far the best we have ever used. I will check to see the brand they are when I get home later. Nothing sticks to them, they heat up great even at high temps and they clean up perfectly every time in the dishwasher.

With electric, it is harder for me to justify good money for cookware. I bought my wife a set back when we had a gas stove and they're just about the same as others on electric. The big money stuff is more about an even cook. Hard to do when electric is on off. Unlike a steady flame. Same can be accomplished with something thick, like cast iron. For that reason, we basically buy a cheap pan for eggs and most everything else we have added has been cast iron. Plus we like to think our kids will fight over the cast iron once we are gone. Everything else will likely be given away.

I'm about the same as Dave. I have a good collection of cast iron I use for various things. But for everyday abuse, I don't buy expensive anymore since I use electric. Just a basic non stick set the wife and I beat up every couple years. That being said, the in-laws bought us a set of Rachel Ray pots/pans that lasted us 8 years

The current set has one of those cooking ladies names on it. Don’t remember which. They’ve lasted longer than I’d of thought, but then again we’ve been empty nest for the same amount of time or a little longer, so it’s just the two of us with occasional gatherings throughout the year.

I have such a hodgepodge of pots and pans now it is hard to say with any conviction what is the best. The "best" cookware varies with what I'm cooking. I cook something every week in a cast iron skillet that is older than you, J. Since I cook pretty much every day most of the time, I have come to appreciate how different pans heat up and retain heat. I have some very inexpensive Cuisinart stainless pans that I really like and use often. I have had T-Fal and Calphalon that was just plain junk. I have some Copper/aluminum/stainless sauté pans that I really like, too. I have a Scanpan 12" non-stick that I have used the hell out of for years. It can go in the oven, it can stand metal cooking utensils without scratching, although I seldom use anything metal besides a whisk in a non-stick skillet or saucepan. I have three Scanpan sauce pans with lids, too. It is really nice cookware, and I'm pretty sure the sell various sets, but be prepared to drop some coin. You wont be disappointed if you buy real professional quality cookware. Lots of that to choose from.

To me, cookware is no different than any of my tools. I hate cheap tools that don't do the job well or don't last. I buy the best I can afford and take care of it in order to get the most out of it. I buy and use pot, pans and kitchen knives with the same mindset because I really enjoy cooking and take it seriously. Buying the best quality usually makes my job easier, or at least less of a hassle. I have not been disappointed with any of the professional quality cookware that I have ever bought.

You've received some good thoughts, let's see if i can mess it up.

Get a set you like for most of your cooking, then get a nice non stick for eggs and such. Supplement with cast iron (enameled or not) along with stoneware (if you do much baking) for your other dishes.

We've had a nice set of calphalon hard anondized aluminum for 16+ years now and have added a piece here and there. We also have a few cast iron skillets that i prefer to use and enamel cast dutch oven and stoneware. It works for us

Here's another option for USA made cookware. If/When I ever commit to running gas to the kitchen for a gas range, I'll spring for this stuff.

Master Class is the cookware we have, fry pans, sauce pans and stir fry pan. We cook on a glass top electric range as well. We used to have a variety of pans some Teflon, some copper and others as well. I never realized how shitty all those pans were until we started using these. I really didn’t think these pans would continue to perform and cook as well as they do this long. That’s because we’ve bought the latest and greatest in the past and after a month or so they started sticking and turned to shit. At this point if we had to replace any they would be replaced with the same thing. Makes it easy to enjoy cooking, especially Sunday morning breakfast which is my favorite.

Well, did you get anything? Probably gonna do some tourist type shit today and I was thinking about trying to find one of those things @Quantum673 has. Copper things to replace the warped tortilla/egg pan.
Nope, showed her the suggested cookware. She’s still looking. Nothing is ever spur of the moment with these decisions. She studies and then waits for a “good” deal to come along….
