Our Little Girl Passed

I swear, the pain from this dog passing away is the worst thing that I've suffered through....real close to human family members. 😥 Digging the grave, placing her in the coffin that I built and today I put flowers on her grave. It's taking longer than I anticipated to get thru/past this death. 🤔

Time is healing the loss, but it sure is a slow healing process. 🙄 This coming Tuesday the 11th will be 6 months since we lost our little girl and it would've been her 17th birthday. My wife and I are having less nightmares about the loss and are trying to have more good memories about the time we shared with her. 💯
Recently, I spent some money on upgrading her grave site with some decorative bricks and marbled stone. :) This will serve as a more memorable site and keep unwanted varmints from digging around the area too. 👍

I found a place, Johns Memorials, here in Lima, that would make a headstone for my little girl. 🐾 I was willing to pay more for something professional looking, but at $80 for this nice piece of granite with the engraving and it was well worth the money. It weighs about 30#, is 10" square and approximately 5" thick.
My wife and I have decided that there will be no more dogs in our life. This loss has been entirely too painful. We are having less nightmares, these days and are consoling ourselves with the many memories of the 16 good years we had with her. 🥰

@Bowhunter57 Im sorry for your loss. That is a beautiful headstone and grave. Its clear you loved your puppy like she deserved.

We just put down our 10 year old GSD last month. One week she was fine, the next she was lethargic, didn't want to eat, and drinking way too much. She improved after a trip to the vet, but two weeks later, was back in bad shape. This time with a bloated belly. Took her into medvet. She was bleeding inside, likely from a ruptured tumor we never knew was there. We put her to sleep while she stood guard over us one last time. Just before she put her head down to sleep she looked at each of us and licked us one last time. That was probably the hardest thing Ive had to do.

We swore up and down we wouldn't get another dog. But we will. Just not now. The unexpectedly hard part was having someone ring the doorbell and there being silence.

Damn, sorry to hear this.

Sure hate to hear that Tipmoose, definitely thinking of you guys!!

After putting our GSD Koda down earlier this year we swore up and down that was it. That was until my daughter moved back home with her black GSD Zeus. He has livened up the house and man what a great dog he is becoming. Still a pup but he has actually settled down our husky Mako who seemingly has become more of a brother to him rather than dominant over. We often remark of how Zeus reminds us of Koda, the following of my wife around the house, sitting at her feet while working and his deep bark. It has been a good thing for us all.

I posted a separate story about Crystal Clear Memories, out of Tampa, FL. that made the crystal for our Carrie. I sent them the photo below, on Friday and had the finished crystal on the following Tuesday. (y) The illuminated base really makes for a nice way to remember our little girl. 🥰

That looks awesome. I missed the other thread, I think. Also, I didn't mean to hijack your thread when I posted about having to put ellie down. I just thought it might help to know others feel the same way, but as Jesse points out, the joy of a life filled with dogs is worth it.
