Lost 5 chickens yesterday. During daylight. From the yard with no barking. New one for me. Carried off with nothing but feathers to show where it happened. Guessing fox or bobcat.

Dude, u straight jinx ureself with that prior post. Im sorry to read that.

These bitches are getting more and more brave, just a matter of time. I'm more curious how my boys will react lol.

Made it the 1 month mark, all 10 hens still alive. They're still on own for most hrs of the day but no eggs yet and they are getting adventurous with the neighbor's property. The fenced in run is not far behind. This afternoon they are enjoying the shade and the treeline for a fresh dust bath.

A couple whistles and shake of the Hen Hosue Reserve brings em in 100% of the time now.

We lost 6 before she stopped letting them out. Still no clue what it was. Never found a trace of any of them either. Not sure how many chics she has in the garage because of it. Probably another 20 because she told me 6. Lol
Could it have been an air assault?

I need to start advertising our eggs now. We had enough local demand from neighbors to keep up with before, but as of a couple weeks ago we’re getting 12-14 eggs a day now. We’ll see how it goes. I really like having the bigger flock. But if I don’t find some more outlets for the eggs, I don’t think I’ll have any trouble finding buyers for the birds themselves. Hell, I know I could sell 6 to Dave’s wife at least. 😂

First egg from the new hens showed up today, which is a bit sooner than expected. My guess is it's from one of the Buff Orpingtons. There's definitely a difference in how hearty they are compared to the others. Super pleased with the whole flock, but especially the Buffs.

Our buff is our most consistent layer and large to extra large eggs after only a few months. Our buckeye eggs are mediums at best and look like quail eggs in comparison to the huge buff eggs.

my youngest is trying to sell them off our porch and we advertised in the local community Facebook group but we're mainly giving to friends and family. 8-11 eggs daily.
