I’ve enjoyed expandable BHs for years. I’ve had fantastic luck with Rage but I wanted to try a few others. This year I tried the mega meats. After shooting a doe on Saturday - I have to say - I am impressed. They fly well and boy, they cut a big hole. You can replace the blades easily and the ferrule is heavy duty (from my experience this far).

all in all - just wanted to share for anyone looking for a option worth trying.

Doe was qtr away - double lunged her. Exit was behind other shoulder on the crease.

If they hold up and provide a good blood trail I'd argue worth it, and that's why I'm good with my triplepoint clovis (also spendy)

They ain’t to bad cause the replacement blades are not too expensive. From my experience with rages, once you shoot them the ferrule is ruined - most of the time.

I will say this: The 2 shoulder shots we tracked (w/mega meats) were excessive blood trails. The one we recovered, had a massive hole in it!

I can imagine if you gut shoot one with a mega meat - almost any good dog or drone will find the deer - as long as not pushed. The holes deff will cause hemorrhaging!!

Just ordered some new blades and rings - I believe it was enough for like 5+ BHs - 40bucks. The deer I’ve shot with the BH so far the ferrule is in perfect shape. Hell in the blades pretty good as well but for a few bucks - I owe it to the animal for the sharpest head possible.

I’ll keep everyone updated.

I’m pretty committed to my fixed heads, BUT if I were ever to change to a mechanical it would be MegaMeats. My buddy started shooting them this year and they make one hell of an entrance hole. He shot 2 mature does, slightly quartered to in the scapula area (unintentionally) with them and they both dropped well within sight. No exit for either but they seemed to have worked well for him.

Yea that doe I shot was in a big foodplot and it was like 10mins till dark - she made it just out of plot where a little logging road his before a big bottom - she rolled right there. Maybe 60-80 yards, dead ass run! Pretty amazing so far.

So funny you posted this. I’ve been shooting Magnus stingers for like 7-8 years now and, although they never let me down, I have been considering making a switch… and the G5 mega meat heads were at the top of my list. Glad to see the positive reviews here.

Deer #1 for me with the MegaMeats. I bought them for Kaydence and was very pleased and wanted to try them for myself since I haven't had time to shoot or tinker as much as usual this year. Entrance at 30 yards with a 525 grain Easton Axis. Fileted both lungs, cut the windpipe in two, and severed the artery on the underside of the spine. Broadhead was lodged in the offside shoulder. The blood trail was exceptional start to finish. He made it 100 yards and it was over in 15 seconds. These will be my go to head from now on.

Adding this here for the sheer ridiculousness of the entrance. It's a combo of angle and maybe a stick or something making it worse, but the G5 MegaMeats are no joke.

Good lord that's ridiculous! How have you found them for durability? A couple video reviews said they bent way out of shape and that impacted the penetration it got.

You've actually killed multiple deer with them, so I figure you know better than a dude shooting ballistics gel.

I treat them as disposable, in other words, it's the cost of doing business and I only use them on deer once. But, both the deer we killed this year, the broadheads could be sharpened and reused. I use them as practice heads or coyote arrows once they've been shot. They're definitely more durable than Rages.

I’ll add Jenna’s buck to this. Our first time using the Mega Meats for her in her crossbow. Definitely impressed with them. Blood trail wasn’t the greatest for more than half of the track but it was because small intestine had pushed out through the entry hole. Once blood made it to the exit it came pouring out.

One blade was slightly bent down towards the ferrule and had a few nicks in the blade. Wasn’t bent sideways at all. If I recall correctly the other two blades were in pretty good shape.

was just the blades bent or the ferrule?

for me the ferrule has been perfect and the bent blades -I can replace. I believe midway USA had them and the orings for 20 bucks and that replaces 3 to 6 heads (I can’t recall - I’ll check later). That’s pretty affordable and as long as those blades for expansion are sharp - it should have not issue punching and cutting, imo.
