Jump starters

What do y'all suggest for a jump starter to keep in the garage? We had a Stanley but found out this morning it no longer works.

I have the small ones in each of our vehicles instead of cables so no one can mess up my vehicle. I just hand it to someone needing a jump and let them use it.

But that one took a few attempts on my wife's ascent.

Also i have a set of cables but normally leave before my wife so she wouldn't have my vehicle there to do a standard jump.

Looking for something simple my wife can use or eventually my kids.

Something like this is what I recommend. I have basically the same thing and it has worked great. Nice and small. It has jumped many cars that a plug in starter wouldn’t jump. I take it everywhere including the boat. Glad to see this thread as I need to order another one for my wife’s car.

I recently bought from Amazon a Halo Bolt 58830 portable auto emergency kit for ~$140. I've topped off the tire pressure on my truck and her car and was favorably impressed. It does a lot more but I haven't put it through all its paces yet.

Like advertised, this did not work on a 6.7L diesel with low power.

Dang. I need one. But I need one that'll do that 7.3. Which is a tall ask. Tech manual says it needs 200rpm to fire the HEUI injectors. At that low of an RPM it would need 5+ seconds I bet to kick over and go.

I have a 110v battery charger I keep in the garage… it’ll charge 6v, or 12v on either 2 amp trickle or 10 amp fast charge, and it has a 50 amp jumpstart function. I’ve used it to jump my truck a few times after I’ve forgotten to turn off its headlights overnight. Works fine and was only like 30 bucks at Rural King.

I’ve bailed out more people that I don’t know, than people who I did know with this thing. Unfortunately, it got drained down too much while I was at strouds and won’t go above 50% charge.
I probably should just replace it and be done with it. Keep it in the shed for the mower just in case….
It’s a nice piece of mind to have while on the water or while out hunting as well. Always in the truck or on the boat.
