Agreed but I’m thinking who would make up that story plus the two asshats watched them do it from what I read.
Me thinks ole boy snagged it twice. Didn't claim it because those 2 "asshats" that own the dock said they'd turn him in. Those asshats didn't want their dock overrun for the summer, snagged it, took pics and made up a story. That fish is alive and well and those guys know it.

That is what I want to believe anyways. Seems logical. Unless it floated after being caught. Because the last pics of it, it looks to be dead or really really worn out. It is really hard to believe a couple of guys on waterfront property fileted a giant fish. They don't look Amish.

You could be right Dave. If the fish “bit” on the second catch why were’t the hooks “inside” the mouth. Lol

Last edited to stave off any grammar corrections from you know who. Lmao

If you foul hook a bass on the side of the mouth TWICE, it sounds like it didn’t have the lure in its mouth and you were just jerking when it was looking at the lure in the bed. Who knows. If that was the case, he probably would have turned it in??? I know a bass can be caught several times a day. There was a farm pond we fished as kids and would catch the same bass several times an evening. It was easy to identify as it had a messed-up top lip. It was almost a game with that bass. Not on spawn either.

Sight fishing bedded bass isn’t like regular fishing. The fish will move the bait off the bed, it’ll use the outside of its mouth to do it, it’ll feel like a bite at times and you set the hook. Sometimes it’s inside the mouth, many more times it’s not.
A good look at the place where the hook was at can tell you a lot on how it was hooked. A big buck tournament like that, they’ll be looking hard at that. Then there’s the polygraph. That’ll catch a lot of people who’d try to make it look legit….

When bass are spawning, they aren't really eating. It was just trying to get the invader away from the spawning bed. Hence, the foul hooks. It just uses its mouth to remove that lure and isn't taking it all the way in to actually eat and allow a solid in the mouth hookset. That bass could be caught as many times as it tries to remove the invader.

I agree that those good ol boys know bass taste like shit and they did not eat it.
