So the trip to Illinois started out as normal... Cruising along till just the other side of Indianapolis when 2 state troopers passed us at a high rate of speed... Couple miles down the road the interstate is closed... I sat there for 3 1/2 hrs... Finally the road reopens around 3:30 am... Ok time to put the pedal to the medal and make up some time.... 45 minutes later I'm noticing my lights getting dim and I'm losing power then engine dies... Being mechanically inclined first thought was alternator went... Called Indiana State Police for assistance and they gave me 2 towing companies... Both companies were totally useless. Found another company and called them and got a guy on the phone that sounded like he knew what he was doing..He said he'd be there in about a 1/2 hour... Bingo here he comes... He agreed with me on the possible problem, but first let's get you back to the shop and we'll check it out... I pulled alternator while he took another call... Then when he got back he took me to Auto Zone, where I got a new alternator and went back and threw it in.... VAROOM.... Back in business and back on the road... This tow truck operator renewed my faith in mankind as he didn't have to help me.... It was Sunday morning and I'm still 4 1/2 hrs from my destination.... So I threw him $200.00 for his time above and beyond my towing bill... Thank God I knew a little bit about mechanics or I would have been F...ed... A trip that's normally around 17 hrs. ended up being 24 hrs....

Look at the bright side, dude helped you out, things could been a lot worse- the beer can is half full..... (y)
Dan.... Exactly .... It was Sunday morning, He could have towed me back to the shop and dropped me off and been on his way.... Then what would I have done... That's why I threw him 2 bills and called the towing company Mon. morning and told the owner he better take care of that employee...

nah the beer can isn't half empty nor half full, time for another round!

Good luck with the rest of your trip. Hopefully the challenging moments are in the rear view.

Dave... The road through life always has a few bumps in it... So this ordeal was just another.. Did it ruffle my feathers??? Of course it did but then again I was blessed to get the tow truck operator I did, couple that with my having turned a few wrenches I was able to over come... Hey, I 'm blessed that at the ripe old age of 74 I'm able to make these trips and still climb trees and harvest a deer or two...
