    Northern MI (again)

I will also add, I am using a Ruger AR 5.56 chambered in .350 Legend, shooting Winchester Deer Season XP bullets in 180 grain. I did not have an exit hole, and guts were entirely intact. But she dropped on the spot so it did what it needed to do. When I get her processed tomorrow I’ll see what...

    Northern MI (again)

Final update from up north from me. I set an alarm yesterday morning for 4:45 and said fuck that and snoozed it until 5:30 with first shot being 7:01 according to the MI DNR regs. I was out the door by 5:45, walking in by 6:15. It was 7:10 and still super dark when I had the unidentified deer...

    Northern MI (again)

(Continued, not sure why it wouldn’t post the whole thing) We met back at our trucks and went to the buck pole. If you’ve never been to a Northern MI buck pole, I highly recommend it. It is the coolest thing ever, and an awesome tradition that MI keeps going year after year. We got back to...

    Northern MI (again)

From 7:30 this morning: Gonna try to keep this long update short. Got up early and hunted a saddle I scouted the day before that I bumped a buck on. There were 4 or 5 deer directly under the tree I had chosen, and let me get super close before they took off, like 10 yards- scared the shit out of...

TOO is giving me issues and won’t let me post. Will try to update later.

    Northern MI (again)

My buddy Eli asked me the same thing. There’s a guy that’s not too far from us that lives here full time, so that should help keep unwanted critters away. I will say I saw a set of canine tracks that were huge yesterday, meant to take a pic but forgot.

    Northern MI (again)

Long story short, today sucked balls. I rolled out around 10 and went to the same piece of public I shot my buck on to scout a bit more. Rain was supposed to be done by 10, but decided to start back up again at 11 when I was a mile back in there. The northern end of this area is significantly...

    Northern MI (again)

A friend of ours has an acre or two that he drug a camper up to and lets us stay at. 2 years ago we slept outside and it wasn’t too bad, but it’s nice to have a warm dry spot to sleep, especially after sitting in the cold or rain all day.

    10/30/2024---911 What Is Your Emergency?

Wow! So glad you’re okay! That’s one hell of a story, and one you’ll never forget.

    Northern MI (again)

I haven’t seen anyone camping yet. There’s has definitely been an increase in road traffic, and both bars in town had 40+ trucks between the 2 of them. I’d imagine it’s gonna be a pretty busy opening day since it’s on a Friday this year. It’s relatively easy to get away from the pressure...

I promise, if I packed the food, salad wouldn’t have been on my list. I ate 1 granola bar all day, so I was about ready to start eating bark off the trees 😂

Double bacon burgers and a salad on the side for dinner 👍🏼

    Costco butter recall

Survival of the fittest. If you don’t know your butter is… milk, or god forbid you don’t know your peanuts contain… peanuts, then you can probably get thinned from the herd 😂

    Northern MI (again)

I’ll add some pics when I have light in the morning of our “Up North Deer Camp”. It’s a pretty sweet setup for a pair of drunk idiots. May try to get my buck skinned and deboned tomorrow morning depending on what time I roll out of bed. My dad said he’d like to watch since he’s always had...

    Northern MI (again)

Evening update. Saw a single mature doe in the bottom 100-ish yards away, about where I expected. Wind just wasn’t right to push in where I would’ve liked to have gotten to. My dad met me at camp, and we have our tarp system set up for the rain that’s about to start. Think we may fire up the...

    Northern MI (again)

Yep, as long as you buy the combo license. If you just buy the regular license, you only get one buck tag.

    Northern MI (again)

Opted for the observation sit, despite setting up a little lower to be closer to the highest concentration of acorns I’ve seen in this area. I’m within 50 yards of where I bumped a buck earlier, so hopefully he wanders back through. I can comfortably see 200-250 yards 360° around me with a very...

    Northern MI (again)

I’ll add, the buck sign here is so much different than at home. I’m used to 3’ scrapes and rubs on trees that are 6”+ around, not this bullshit 😂 Some of these scrapes are hardly bigger around than a 5 gallon bucket, they can be super tough to spot, especially when there’s only 1 with the next...

    Northern MI (again)

This morning I went to an old clear cut to scout the section and verify my dad’s stands were still there. Both stands were there, and there was reasonable deer sign. I saw 1 legal buck 50 yards out, but naturally my wind swirled right to him. Also bumped 5 or 6 other deer that were bedded under...
