2013/2014 hunting with the hounds.

Good deal, do the yotes ever turn on the dog and become the chaser???? Typically where do they bay them????

Sure does sound like a great day. Congrats on your successes. Wish I could have made it out. Not looking good for quite a few days now. Maybe by next weekend things will calm down for me if you guys hit it.

Lol yea the one male chased the dog yesterday a couple times after it got tired. I've seen them bayed in the wide open and I've seen them bayed in the middle of a tree top. As the snow gets deeper the less they want to run. When they chase the dog it just a couple jumps per say. The dogs retreat and the coyote will turn around and the chase is back on.

We had fun. Glad I took a vaca day yesterday. It don't sound like this week is going to be any better, I just got home from pushing drifts all day and going back in at 2 am. Gotta love mother nature, the only good thing is it may save a few deer. You got my number so when you get a free weekend we can set something up.

Sorry guys I was wrong on our groups numbers of dead yotes I was off one too many. But we did kill two more today. We located them by driving around and tracked them to a section were we have killed several before and we know there was a litter there this spring. So after we gathered ever body one popped out of the woods and started east we turn him and he went back to the woods at the north end of the section. And we came in from the south with me and another guy and a dog. I went to the south woods to a hole in the highway fence so the dog wouldn't cross the four lane . As I went thru the patch out jumped the second coyote so we were sure there was two. We walked the dog and put the dog on the second coyote track. The dog opened and my buddy turned him lose off he went . When the coyote came to the road we dumped two more dogs and they had him caught at the next road. Meanwhile when the dog and coyote went by the patch of woods the first coyote went to it came out. Going east. It went east and turned back south towards me and my buddy. He went by me at about 70 yards and I shot he went on south through the hole in the highway fence and stopped in another patch just south of the highway. So after we shoot the one that the dogs were on we regrouped and killed thee second one which was hit and bleeding good when he crossed the highway. That's why he stopped in the patch south of the highway. Those two moved us up to 16 coyotes so far. We should've killed a third but it gave us the slip somewhere after the dogs jumped it. The group will be back at it tomorrow but I'm going to stay home and get stuff done around the house.

Would love to hook up with you guys tomorrow. Looks like we will be at a retail plaza yanking carpet and drywall from a frozen sprinkler system which let loose. Trust me, chasing some yotes sound like a lot more fun. lol

You didn't miss much yesterday Phil it was foggy and we only hunted a couple of sections. And to no avail maybe get with me before Friday and we can work something out. And yea I've been dealing with water problem s about all last week .

Got a txt from one of the group they killed another today which makes 17. I didn't go yesterday or today do to some plumbing issues. But it sounded like they had a good chase. And one less Bambi killer out of the picture.

Next weekend is out for me. I have some obligations non work related I had promised someone. Appreciate it though Jake.

H
Have enjoyed this thread.Keep after them.

Thanks Boarhead we have had a lot of fun chasing them . A buddy from the group text me earlier and said the group needs 2 more to make 150 dead yotes in the last 7 years. Thats when we switched from pushing them and tracking them to running the dogs on them . I'm glad you are enjoying the thread. I hope to get more picks posted. Its just hard to tote the tablet with me and I still am old school and carry the old flip phone lol. But I will do my best to get more pics.

IMG_20140117_153459.jpg this one makes 18 this year, we need one more for 150 in last seven yrs. And we had that one get away today but I'm sure they will be after it tomorrow. Only ran this one about two miles today.

Well we killed 150 today from the last seven years. And it made number 19 for this year. I was ant there when they jumped it because I went into work at midnight last night and came home at 9 this morning so I could go to my daughters basketball game. I was whipped after hunting all day yesterday i came home and napped. I did manage to watch a few sections before I came home though. It was tuff today because we had so many tracks they were hard to figure out and the wind picked up which made it worse. But the guys did go back to a spot we left one get away last Friday, and sure enough they jumped one they took it a mile and the dogs caught it on the river. It sounds like it was a mess with the coyote on the ice and the dogs breaking thru it. It sounds like it could've been a bad deal but the guys got too them in time.

I was ant able to hunt yesterday. I had to work. But the boys killed number 20 yesterday. And we heard that another group lost a dog to a snare. Rumor has it the guy that owned the snare did not have permission nor a trap tag on it. DNR was called and the guy was sited. Hate to hear about losing a hound to a snare. That's the second one in two years that the local groups have lost. Our group has been fortunate.

That is horrible. Sorry to hear it. Been busy around here with drifting snow and non stop snow storms. I am not sure when we are going to catch our breath.

That sucks too hear that..... Never a good thing but is always a chance taken when you enter the woods.... I've always worried one of the girls would get caught up in a snare but have been fortunate on that at least....
