This is what I'm observing, tell me if I'm wrong -
Preparedness is becoming a little more mainstream in our general culture, and no longer carries the stigma that used to be associated with "Doomsday Preppers". I attribute that to Sandy/Harvey etc. HOWEVER - people that do any kind of prep are in the 90th percentile and up. Most people still just don't get it. At all.

Oh no you're correct, the inner cities will burn. Unfortunately that is also where most hospitals are located.

So what are you guys doing to prep for this? I have several gallons of bleach, a few cans of lysol. Probably need more than the 1/2 dozen masks i have on hand. Probably more hand sanitizer
I took a half day today. Just stopped at DG for $100 worth of bleach, soap, sanitizer, spray, meds, and water. Also got extra paper towels and TP, which I will now treat like my gas tank, the linen closet will be 1/2 full at all times. I just ordered 100 XXL latex gloves and 100 small gloves. One the virus hits Appalachia, I'll probably start wearing gloves to pump gas, ATM, shop, etc.
I'm on my way to Kroger now. We have a 7-10 days of provisions as is, but I'm going to bump that up to 14 days at least. I'll spend the weekend putting up wood and food. I'll also need to hit the feed mill for chicken supplies. I'll butcher my ducks this weekend, so I won't need to feed them any longer.
Everything I'm buying will get used eventually, so I borrowed from the rainy day fund and intend to be prepared and if we don't need it to survive the virus, we'll have it on hand when we need it.

Coffee and booze is also well stocked. If I have to say home for 2 weeks in quarantine with my wife and kids, I'll need lots of both!
I agree Dan. I think it is two fold. I think some of it is a resurgence of old. Some of us watched our parents or grandparents "live off the land". At a minimum, they burnt some firewood or grew a garden. Stories of previous generations are told though. I believe there is a sect who relishes a time of simpler ways and doesn't want it to die. Maybe this resurgence was re-energized by preppers?

I’m still gonna need you to bump those numbers up Jesse. Good to see the doubling happen. A couple packs of smokes in the freezer probably wouldn’t hurt either.
Maybe look at some DIY smoker set ups. Give ya something to do and help prep for even worse things. Because I strongly believe that if holding up in the house/home with family was to happen for two weeks, your mind will eat you. Even though a 2 week vacation goes by in a flash.
$400 in insurance, all of which are consumables we use routinely and will use up over time. I've heard November as a reasonable time frame for a vaccine, so we'll sit on everything I bought until then. With 3 deer and a bunch of other animals in the freezer, I feel I've done what I can to put my family in a favorable position. Garden season is right around the corner and I intend to go all out this year. Being a dad has really made me rethink shit like this. I can wing it if it's just me, but it's not and I don't think fortune will favor those with a laissez faire attitude.

I still have my charcoal smoker and my buddy just built a smoker out of an old fridge. If he dies first, I'm stealing that thing! 
My intention was a project that will help you. Great way to cure meat in large quantities with DIY shed style smoker. It could easily be turned into an outhouse afterwards. But now I’m talking real crazy, so I’ll stop. Projects are good.

Damn I gotta get with the program and start stocking up.... And I'm mister clean when it comes to germs... Good thing you guys didn't live in the 60's when every school had bomb shelters with provisions set up in the basement from fear of a nuclear attack from Russia....
