11 does and 3 bucks, finally first definite shooter. He held up at 80 yds and I got too aggressive grunting at him and spooked him away. Same pushing, chasing, grunting, etc still going on. This weather sucks though.

Tons of pressure on public. Heat has everything held tight. Not seen a lot in areas we typically do. Cameras even slow.
And to dry and noisy to get aggressive.

And just like that the switch was flipped. Went from 10 to 15 a day with multiple bucks for the last week to 1 cruising resident 4yr old this morning. I can only assume and hope was weather related.

Right back into the action tonight. 5 bucks and 4 does. I had a shooter at 20 yds but wasn't able to get drawn because he was in a standoff with a 4yr old that came from other direction. He took off after a hot doe before I could make it happen. Great night all the fun with none of the mess.

I sure hope we get some rain tomorrow but I'm not sure it's going to happen

What a difference a day makes. Saw a hammer of a 10 point but only briefly at 50 yards ish. No shot presented. Then around 5 I saw a beautiful perfect 8 point well outside his ears and a foot above his head. When he turned sideways the points line up perfectly with the opposite side. I will shoot either of them if I get a chance, but the chase is on as both were running and checking does!
2 does, no bucks tonight. Buddy was watching the other end of the property. 8-9 does, no bucks. I'd say it is happening but not on that property. At least, not that end of the property.

Yall always laugh when I always post about the rut being in January. Highland county rut is on right now. Been multiple bucks fighting for about an hour in front of one of my cams.
That's gotta be it. Why didn't I think of that. Every year around this time these bucks huddle around a food source with fawns does. Gotta be the food.
