Ok - so I am a bit ashamed here but I just don’t have a great understanding of rifles. I have a 450, sighted in and I kill deer with it. That’s about my level of knowledge.

So - with that being said. What is the goal of these new rounds? Better ballistics?

Ditto, other than the owning one. I have no idea what we are looking at.

Makes more money for both gun and ammo manufacturers. Tapping into a market that is endless too a point….

So that makes sense but isn’t capacity constraints a concern? Like at some level of mfg. adding too many skus reduce throughput. So by having so many calibers - my fear is that in 5-10 years they disco the least profitable ones and double down on the highest PM ones.

not sure if that’s valid but that’s a concern I have before buying some of these “newer” styles.

People are not happy because they went from slinging huge chunks of lead at deer to a 150 grain 350 round. Opens the market for improvement. 450 guys are also complaining about wasted meat. Both problems come down to the same problem with broadheads...placement. Shot placement and knowing the limitations of your self and your equipment. But, you can't blame a manufacture for trying to fix it at the chance at grabbing some money. And it never hurts to have more guns and options. Part of being American!

Guns last a long time. I regularly use guns that are over 100 years old. Gun manufactures haven't figured out planned obsolescence so they need to give the customer some reason to buy a new gun.

Other than materials and manufacturing processes there really have been very few revolutionary improvements in firearms and ammo in the last 50-75 years. Yes many incremental improvements but nothing really big.

F-ing joke... Maybe the gun and ammo manufacturers should just fix the current problem of supply and demand for current products... Can't even get ammo for guns that are in production or buy a firearm that has been in production... Everywhere you look it's out of stock, will let you know when available.. FIX WHATS BROKE FIRST, THEN MOVE ON....

This new 400 Legend, does it come with a clip or a magazine, this plays a major role...

Yep. Exactly. Hunters and shooters of today like to chase the new shiny rock they saw marketed on Instagram and Facebook. The whole pistol caliber rifle thing was a coordinated lobbying effort to create a new cash cow market. Since everyone that wants one has pretty much bought one, it's time to introduce a new shiny rock to get them to buy another one.

I feel like all these new cartridges are akin to the far left making up new genders…

Back in the day most of the new calibers were derived from military rounds and wildcatters and bench-rest guys started making new rounds from them. They became popular because of their performance on the range and in the woods. For example, the 6mm Lee Navy became the 250-3000, then the 220 swift, then the 22-250. The 7mm Rem Mag came from a hunter and guide who modified a 375 H&H Mag which was a British military round.

It seems today they all come from Ammo and gun makers and become popular with marketing.

100% agree Jackalope. The problem is it actually makes it harder for sportsman. It’s not just the “keeping up the Creedmoors” it’s finding the ammo and calibers needed and how new ones displace the tried and true.

im a partially reformed gear whore and have known for a long time buying new things won’t likely change an outcome that wasn’t in my favor from the get go. Most guys buy 1000yard guns and put a few rounds through at less than 200 off a wobbly arm chair and stack of old porn then feel they’re Carlos Hathcock and can shoot a deer at 3250yds or their round bullet can pass through brush of the newest straightwall will solve not scouting during archery… I’d love to see better bullets made for all calibers. We have the tech and metallurgy. There’s no replacement for effort. Now pass the collection dish as I end the sermon. Haha

The 350 caught an enormous amount of flack from the shooting community when it came out . Nobody wanted it around and deemed it pointless , now its a widely accepted cartridge in more than just the straight wall states. Different strokes for different folks. I like having variety in the shooting world the more the merrier to an extent. There are definitely pointless calibers but then again there are pointless goods in every hobby and market that exists .

I don't think this cartridge will have a chance, because it's too "middle of the roadish" to pick up enough interest from one side or the other. 🤔

The 350 and 450 debate is nothing more than a 20 gauge and 12 gauge debate. 🙄 Lower recoil and enough killing power vs. extended range and increased killing power.
Coming from owning 12 gauges and a 450 Bushmaster, I've always favored having more and then refine my own shooting skills with the weapon that I've chosen. 👍💯 Bitching about meat loss is just stupid and a direct reflection on the shooter's skills....or lack thereof.
If I were to take a drop in power, I'd favor a lever-action in 44 Mag. or 45 Long Colt or simply hunt with a handgun.
