9-11

Junior year in highschool. I was in principles of technology class. Another teacher came in whispering to my teacher. She left and wheeled in a TV cart and we saw the first tower smoking. I thought it had to be some crazy accident and then right there on live TV the 2nd plane flew into the 2nd tower. I think even as stupid teenage kids we all knew that day that things would never be the same. I'll never forget that day. It's as clear in my mind as yesterday.

I was four and couldn't even begin to comprehend the magnitude of what was happening. I just remember seeing smoking towers and my parents being shocked. I don't think I even knew what the twin towers were.

John...an honor to know a fella like you. It gives me hope in our future because I know you have passed this on to Levi. Reading that gave me goosebumps.

I was working in Louisville, installing a new furnace in some ladies apartment when we heard about it on the radio. We turned on her TV and watched it the rest of the day. The next day I was on my way to my reserve unit to check in and volunteered for funeral detail. That day completely changed the course of my life. I quit the reserves and went active duty, changed my MOS from 31L, Cable wire installation to 13M MLRS Field Artillery. Ended up in Iraq in '03 and again in '05. Some things you just never forget, no matter how hard you try.
