Damn the air got dusty
I grew up listening to my grandfather telling us about his outdoor adventures. We fished together but he passed before I was old enough to go hunting. He stepped away from hunting as he got older and always wanted to get back into it it with his grandkids.
Unfortunately that never happened. My dad hated fishing and never took to hunting. So whenever I read these kind of stories, the rooms dust levels increase exponentially……

Great story J... 1962.... The year I started hunting... Got my Dad hooked on spring gobblers late in his life... Spent numerous mornings with him in the woods chasing birds... God he loved the sound of an old tom coming in... He was on his death bed in the spring of 1992 and still had that burning desire to go... He asked me if I picked up his turkey permit... I responded YUP... But he never got to go... Where does time go??

I remember reading that in the magazine. Like most my age, I read every outdoor magazine I could get my hands on as a kid. This piece is one of the very few I read that I recall like I read it yesterday. I was 14 in 1986. One of my all time favorites. Some may not know that Ray Eye became one of the premier “turkey guys” in the 70s and 80s and still is today.
