A struggle

I think he is young but that is just my opinion.

I agree. I see a 3.5 year old at best Zach. That's just my opinion though...

I know you well enough to know you'd be pissed after you walked up on that deer. He just wouldn't do it for you despite being a "cool" deer. You are a guy that kills big deer, not cool deer. I've never killed a truly BIG deer, but I now have 3 "cool" bucks and while that satisfies me to some extent, if I knew the taste of killing monsters like you, I wouldn't see me going back to settling for cool deer. Like JD said, stick to your guns...

When in doubt, back out. Works for tracking and judging deer. If there is question if he is a shooter, in my oppinion he isnt a shooter.

Why settle for a deer you're in doubt about..... You knew your time for big deer was going too slow down somewhere..... This might just be it, so if nothing you like walks in front of you just eat the tag and go on too next season.....

eating a tag generally means that youhad a long hunting season. If you love the hunt and the feeling of anticipation while waiting for the big one then eating the tag isnt a bad thing. Once you put it on the ground it antlers and meat and all the fun time in hunting is done for the year, cepting slickheads.

Shoulda known this was gonna happen. What a waste.

I'll call BS on that, Zach. Not a thing wrong with gun hunting, or gun hunters. Most here do both. If a person chooses not to, I think they are a fool. It's something I enjoy, and I'm sure that most everyone that does it enjoys it as well. If you were that worried about someone killing him with a gun, you should have put an arrow through him. There will be more next year, or even later this year!

:smiley_clap:

I'm a bow hunter first and foremost; but I'm a deer hunter to the core and will kill them however I can. To imply that a deer is wasted simply because of the weapon used to kill is the kind of elitist BS that gives bowhunters a bad rap with other hunters. If the person who shot that buck is happy with it, then the deer was not wasted. Go look at the thread I posted today in the Trail Cam section. I lost a stud 8 to a gun yesterday and do not consider it a waste. Unfortunate for my future trophy hunting, yes. But a waste it was not to the young girl who was thrilled to death to have killed him.

Agreed.

Lot of deer going to "waste" this week in your eyes huh?

I truly hope there is more to this story which classifies this kill as a waste and not just the type of legal weapon it was harvested with.

Yes. If it was shot and not recovered, then it is a waste. But the weapon has nothing to do with that. In fact, bow hunters "waste" far more deer in a season than gun hunters.
