A surreal moment

You guys promote CWO's to O-3? We don't use CWO, so past knowing the rank and I'm supposed to salute them, I don't know much about them....

28 years, long time. Are you retiring as an O-4? Prior enlisted? I'm only halfway, and under the current administration, I'm really regretting having another 10 to go. And I'd like to do 30... But not when they're talking taking TA away, who knows, GI bill if you don't use it in 10 years maybe, messing with retirement, etc. Nothing is past this administration.

Be glad you're done and you'll be getting your full retirement. Thanks for all that service. If I'm not busy, I might come out to your ceremony. I'll be back on the east coast.

The Navy and Marine Corps has a limited duty officer program. The Navy promotes from enlisted to O-1 and has the promotion potential to reach O-6. The Marine Corps only promotes after five years as a CWO (its actually possible to get selected as a CWO2) to O-3. Normally by the time this happens the Marines are on par with the Navy LDO who got promoted to O-1 the same time the Marine was appointed as a warrant officer. This is critical because Marine Aviation is funded by the Navy and because of this we fill joint staff billets in Naval commands.

I'll be retiring as a major (O-4).

Do your time and go the full 20. Only good will come from it and when you are 65 drawing a pension from the military, one from your second career, and then social security you'll be living the good life. :smiley_coolpeace:

I have all intentions of doing my Active 20. I'm just highly doubting I'll see an immediate retirement, at least in it's current stature. With them kicking around the idea of a payout and 401K option. Who knows what else will change in 10 years, or 20 that I plan on doing. Right now I'm on par to make E-9 before my 20. I'd like to continue as long as I can as an E-9 since it's highly unlikely I'll make that money on the outside....

If that does ever happen it'll be for new recruits.

The grandfather clause has typically came in too play on all these changes but they have been talking about not adding that clause on a host of changes coming down the pike.... This could have major ramifications on us older GI's and DOD civilians...

I wouldn't be so sure of that. According to a lot in the house, the govt simply can't afford the current pension plan. Amazing how less than 1% of the population can affect the budget so badly... SMDH.
