I could write a volume about kid's behaviors, attitudes, etc, etc. The fucking entitlement attitude is out of control, i don't wanna keep going, I swear to god parents are more concerned with their children liking them or being their friend, than being a grow ass adult that properly disciplines their child who will be a functioning part of society

It is a mental health issue. These kids can't get away from the drama anymore. They can't have issues at school and get away from it by going home at the end of the day. Works in reverse as well. They can't escape home life by going to school or going somewhere else and all because they can't put the electronics down long enough. It follows them on social media or text wherever they go and add in the addiction to electronics and they can't put their damn phones down so it's constantly in their face.

Iffy on the first paragraph (I'm not knowledgeable on that) but the second is spot on. Kids need less phones, less video games, more screwing around in the back 40 and maybe the occasional paddling for being a POS. My generation is so damn addicted to checking their phone you can hardly hold a conversation with a lot of these kids. I can't imagine what that's like for someone who's being bullied every time they open their phone.

you sir, are very mature for your age. I have no doubt you are not the problem with your generation. You keep that point of view and you do just fine!

Good truth in it. Subprime auto loans run rampant right now. Auto loan default and college loan default "could" be our next trigger when the market (or just the economy) dives. BUT. . .we have a lot of subjects being covered here. lol I'm sure there are segments where the middle class is growing. As a whole, I feel as if the middle class is slipping backwards. Maybe just a geographic difference based upon where we live? Dunno.

I agree with much of this. I don't think an old fashioned execution would be terrible. Not on a daily basis based on the decisions of some police/gestapo/communist strong man. The system does allow people to sit in a cushy jail cell for decades though. This takes away a great factor of deterrent. Arming some teachers sounds great. Might work in Putnam County or rural areas. I'm not sure this works in urban areas. I'm not familiar enough with these type of schools. I do know my nieces and nephews in Columbus do not experience what my kids do in Lima suburbs. Paddling? I got a few of them in school. Got many more at home. Seemed to work for me.

At the end of the day, there are a lot of factors involved. I do not feel I can personally change any of them. All I can do is raise my kids right (or try my best anyway), and make a difference one life at a time where it is possible.
 
What about these bomb threats? Seems they pop up a lot these days. Is it someone overreacting or are kids really doing this? If so, what are the consequences for such a call? How do we stop or slow this downwards spiral?

I don’t see a fix to this. Nature will take its coarse before it gets reset.

Phil talking about auto loans, how about these stupid phones?! I couldn’t of even dreamed of having something worth $500-1000 in my pocket at these young ages. Then you add the contract! Do you realize how many girls would’ve seen my dick had I had one when I was a teenager? Do you think that’s changed? I think not. And somehow we expect these “kids” to know right from wrong? We made this and I don’t think we can fix it.

My daughter turns 13 next month and a phone with a contract is basically a must. She is the last of her friends to get one...and I still feel like she doesn’t need it. My fear level has my fight meter pegged. Somehow, this gives me the “crazy overprotective dad” label. I’m fine with that, she’s 13! That’s MY job!!!

I have a 5 year old that already judges kids that act up. Makes me proud. [emoji23]
 
The worst thing my wife and I did was get our daughter a phone, the change in her was dramatic and fast when she lost her privileges.... Talk about a Jekyll and Hyde personality...
I see it today in a lot of young kids as well, being disconnected from their friends for any amount of time is like murder for them...
I saw that 15 years ago, I imagine it’s even worse now as they get the electronic devices so much earlier now....

Bomb threats. They are to be deemed terroristic threats or inducing panic charges but are reduced down and end up with a slap on the hand and tossed out of school. It seems to be an every week thing here at our schools lately. 2x in the last 2 weeks the kids have been on lockdown at the school.


You're not alone my friend. My girls didn't get one until they were in high school and was on the high school teams and they were on the busses for games. The only reason they had them was to let us know when the bus got back into town so we could go pick them up at the school. My son will turn 13 in April and he still doesn't have a cell phone and will most likely not get one for awhile yet.

And there is the biggest problem. They can't carry on a conversation so they have not a clue how to go about dealing with the issue. It's not like they can go and talk to somebody about it because they don't have a clue how to interact with a live person. For kids to have any kind of therapist they would have to sit in the room on the couch and text with them instead of talking to them lol.
 
My oldest (11) has asked to not get a phone.

She sees the drama and has been a part of it and sees our wisdom. Made a Poppa proud.
 
Cell phones are mans downfall. It's planned control and it's working quite well. Me included.

Fortunate our daughter was caught in the middle of some drama around 5-6th grade. She learned early to run away from those messes. She got a phone around 12 (much against my wishes). Son was 13. Limits must be placed on the kids in my opinion. Can be a great disciplinary tool when used correct. Sadly, I agree many parents want to be friends rather than parents to their kids.
 
I could go on and on with this topic. The shit I see daily now that I’ve switched roles from the classroom to school counselor is mind boggling. Disrespect, knowing there’s no consequences, lack of parental support, and fucking Facebook are all parts of the problem.
“My mom says you can’t do anything and I don’t have to listen”.

Then mom puts it on FB how the school is evil.

We are in a sad state right now. Bottom line is, many kids lack values and it comes from home. Kids are not being brought up right and it leaves educators helpless.

Another problem is every other week there is a story about some teacher banging their students so a lot of trust has been lost. I don't think this is just a kid problem. "Adults" are just as bad since a lot of these new teachers were brought up with the same kind of pussy parenting.

Another thing I've thought about is how many daycares are raising kids. My mom was home and thankfully my wife is able to stay home with my kids. I'm not trying to knock anyone that isn't able to do this just an observation.
