Sounds like for a 20 foot fall it could have ended much worse. Hopefully they send you home today.

I use lifelines on my ladderstands. You just need to tie the end of it off to the bottom of the ladder. Not sure about elevated box blinds because I don't have any of those. I would think you could rig something up though. As long as both ends are tied off it should work.

Keep us posted on how you are doing, please.
Diane, thank you for your concern. The original cat scan and X-rays revealed no breaks. I have bruised lungs and my upper back is bruised. My neck is a mess too causing my head to hurt. The MRI last night was for my neck pain and being unable to move my left shoulder. I doubt I draw a bow any more this season but my future son in law has a little barn at his food plot. So maybe I can try a crossbow there after healing some. Honestly I am just bruised, stiff and hurting. Unless the MRI reveals something else I just need some time. I live for this time of year. I feel fortunate that I will be able to enjoy it next year.

I landed on my backpack. That may have helped. My son went back up and gathered up my stuff. Apparently I took it off and the contents were scattered. I did go over and untie my bow and take it to the cabin ????
I even had my rattling horns on the back side of the back pack. I always turn them away from me body in case of a fall.

I don't know about lungs, but a few years back I had bruised ribs and OMG, I can still remember that pain, so I really feel for you. The ribs took 3 weeks to heal up and stop hurting.

My doctor said the biggest danger in that was taking shallow breaths due to the pain, and that you had to make yourself breathe deeply to not develop pneumonia.

You might want to try and remember that.

I'll keep you in my prayers and also said a prayers of thanks that you survived.

Diane, my lungs don't hurt at all ... Yet. They told me that because of the bruising I'm not using that part of the lung until it starts to heal. So maybe the pain is on its way.

If your lungs don't hurt, that's some good news! My pain was my ribs and not my actual lungs, (but it hurt to even breathe) so maybe that all works differently and you'll remain pain free. At least for that part of your body.

Glad your going to be OK Mike, as I climbed into my stand last night and thought of how you musta felt when that strap let go, that is some scary shit. Heal quick and get back after what you love to do.

Just seen the post. Glad you are doing OK. I've deer hunted for 50 yrs now and never used a lifeline and I fell about 25 yrs ago but only 8 ft. I will not go up a ladderstand without a lifeline.

Ah, so that is why you couldn't move your left shoulder? Will it heal on its own or will you need surgery?
