I self film most of my hunts. Canon g20, canon dm100 mic, varizoom remote, vanguard fluid head and fourth arrow carbon arm. Wish I would have got the g30 for zooming. But overall a decent set up.

I have tried in the past. Just can't get the hang of it. Seems I'm like a monkey fudging a football. After missing opportunities on a couple does I hung it up. Couldn't get over the idea that one of those does may have been a target buck that I would have screwed up trying to get it on film.
Like I said in the previous post, I intent on using nothing but my smartphone attached to my bow this season, however here's a couple of my earliest filming hunts. Nothing spectacular as far as the quality goes, but you may get the idea of what it may be like doing it yourself perhaps, especially when you have multiple deer in the area.
I did this particular one to encourage my boys to hunt Whitetails. My eldest son did the editing at the time. One of his very first video projects. He's currently in his last college semester and will soon be graduating with a major in graphics communication design from UC. He's currently working for HBO in NYC.
So please proden the older technology cause it was done with my field pocket camera at the time.
Here's another older one where I'm operating my tree mounted swiveling camera arm and a newer video camera mounted to that. It's approximately 10 years old I believe.
I still use that some of the same equipment when I'm filming other hunters. In 2016, I filmed a underprivileged youth harvesting his very first deer. Something he'll have for the rest of his days and he's a Whitetail hunter for life now.

Here are a few more taken with the cellphone that I intend on attaching to the bow this season.
I have the arm, fluid head and everything for a basic setup. Have yet to film one with the setup I have. Generally tuck camcorder into vest pocket and pull it out when I want to film or get a picture. I just free hand it. It is for ME. No desire to get onto a TV show, youtube channel, or prostaff of any sort. Therefore, if i don't get a kill shot or footage is shaky. . .oh well. I had fun. I've freehand filmed both my son's kills. It's all about the memories for me. Really should try the fluid head and arm at some point. Maybe this year when my Cousin Bubba comes to hunt Ohio for the first time I will pull it out.
I did use a Roscoby Riser Cam at one point. Footage was so so. Grainy when battery got low. Shaky. Did manage to get the majority of my first archery kill filmed. Nice pic of the tree tops when I drew. Lost track of deer as he ran off. Shaky. Grainy. Rather comical really. Still look at it on occasion. Probably been a year or two since I've looked at the footage. Great memory.

I watched a couple of them for a few minutes but didn't have time to go through all 10 of them. I think maybe you just overloaded us right out the gate with a large number of them. Lol. I'm willing to bet one or two videos would have gotten far more responses than 10. I don't think its that nobody cares, that's just a lot to go through in one sitting. We all enjoy watching videos of self filmed hunts that people share so i don't think that was the issue.
Fair enough,,, too much to handle, I get it...
Just so you know, all 10 of those videos didn't even add up to 35 minutes in total of field coverage with deer all around me while I was hunting with my cell phone last season. I was hoping to get some sort of feedback to see if it the cell phone videos was worth it, sharing them here on TOO.
Hey no sweat off my back cause I do this mainly for myself, my family and anyone else who's interested in seeing what I see when I'm out there hunting these days anyways.
I'll minimize and/or reduce what I share going forward so I don't overwhelm anyone here on TOO.

Nah man I get it. I was just thinking out loud. By no means do I speak for everyone. I just know how the sociology of the internet works a little. We've become an instant gratification society and quickly move to the next thing. That's why facebook and Instagram are so popular. Quick fix and keep scrolling. I bet you anything that if you posted another thread with a single cool video it would get a lot if comments. Then when it slowed down post another one in the same thread and it'll pick back up. Just from my observations that seems to get more responses.

Just so everyone knows, I DO NOT have or participate in FB, Tweeter, Google + or any other major social media platform other than YouTube, email, this forum & part of a gun forum, that's it. I haven't had any other major social media account since 2013.
This time of year, I do enjoy interacting with other Ohio Deer Hunters when I have the time.

Then you have guys like me that’ll watch them, it doesn’t peak my interest enough to comment, but I still enjoy following along. Just not my thing, so I have nothing to say, might have a question every now and then. That’s about it.
My uneducated/inexperience comment on the videos you did post would be. I like impact shots and up close, can’t really get that with a cell in any quality. Also real hard to accomplish being self filmed. I get that, hints no comment.
Mike on here did some short videos last year from the ground. Up close and personal! Cell phone was just fine for those. Talking inside 7 yards...you could feel the energy in the video, and the video itself was garbage, but it captured the moment. The videos I watched of yours didn’t give me that feeling. Maybe this is also part of there being no story to go with it. Mikes instance, we all knew he was going hunting and was going to be hunting from the ground. We followed him throughout the season and connected with his hunts.
I look forward to you taking us along with you this year on your hunts. I know you will take this info and apply it. That’s what you do Denny, adapt and make shit happen. I was quick to learn that when we had lunch. Pulling your videos took me by surprise as I didn’t see that in you.

So you believe that a cell phone can't capture impact shots and/or pick up the impact with quality.
Hmmm.. Okay, we'll see if I can change your way of thinking. I believe my cell will do more than just fine in capturing the moment.
Below are just a few deer encounters that were well within 10 yards of me. In some cases, just feet away. I'll be able to zoom in when needed with my cell phone in the future.
Yes, self filming is not easy, however I've always accepted the challenge for some time now.
And just a few moments ago from an elevated 28 yards away.
